The USA President drops the smile as he realises he’s being booed (Pictures: @arlenparsa/Twitter) Donald Trump’s face dropped as he was greeted by chants of ‘lock him up’ at a baseball game last night. The US President smiled when he and First Lady Melania were shown on the big screen, but his expression quickly turned when fans started booing. Banners supporting impeaching the president were also visible in the Washington DC crowd. Presidents often throw the first pitch at Baseball games, but Mr Trump elected not to for the Washington Nationals vs Houston Astros clash. Hours earlier, the President had announced that US forces had targeted the hiding place of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, killing him in the raid in north-east Syria. {“@context”:“https:\/\/schema.org”,“@type”:“VideoObject”,“name”:“Metro.co.uk”,“duration”:“T1M43S”,“thumbnailUrl”:“https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2019\/10\/28\/09\/20271600-0-image-a-8_1572253754747.jpg”,“uploadDate”:“2019-10-28T08:56:12+0000”,“description”:“US President Donald Trump is booed by the crowd at the baseball World Series on Sunday night.\n\nMr Trump was attending Game 5 in the series between the Washington Nationals and the visiting Houston Astros.”,“contentUrl”:“https:\/\/videos.metro.co.uk\/video\/backup\/2019\/10\/28\/2417198302735481231\/640x360_MP4_2417198302735481231.mp4”,“height”:360,“width”:640} To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video The mission did not provide cover for a jeering crowd in the heavily Democratic district, where only 4% of voters backed Mr Trump in the 2016 election. Mr and Mrs Trump made a low-profile entry as the game got underway and the President smiled and gave a thumbs-up to some fans in the section below waving at him. But while some appeared to appreciate his presence, at the end of the third innings, video screens carried a salute to US service members that drew cheers throughout the stadium. When the video cut to Mr Trump and the loudspeakers announced the couple, cheers abruptly turned into a torrent of boos and heckling. Crowds chanted ‘lock him up’, in reference to a popular slogan in the 2016 campaign about rival Hillary Clinton. Another banner saying ‘impeach Trump’ appeared during the game. The president then left for the White House, which is a few miles north-west of Nationals Park, with one innings to spare. Until Sunday night, Mr Trump had not attended a major league game as President, amid suggestions that his staff try to shield him from events where he might be loudly booed or heckled. Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred said he had discussed the possibility of throwing the ceremonial first pitch with the president, who declined citing the disruption that would cause fans. Mr Trump claimed in 2014 that he captained a baseball team and had turned down an opportunity to be a professional player because there was not enough money on offer. Got a story for Metro.co.uk?
