Fox News has projected that Donald Trump has held Florida – a key state in the race for the presidency (Picture: Metro.co.uk) Donald Trump has reportedly won the election race in Florida, according to Fox News. The TV network has called the key battleground state for the president, handing him hope that he could be spending the next four years in the White House. The state has 29 electoral college votes and is famous for swinging between the Democrats and Republicans. Trump won it in the 2016 presidential election, preceded by Barack Obama in 2012 and 2008 and George Bush in 2004. Trump’s better-than-expected popularity among Hispanic and Black voters was thought to have helped him win the neck-and-neck contest. However his popularity among Cubans in Florida would not necessarily translate among Latinos in states like Arizona or Texas. Joe Biden saw a shift in support from white, older, higher-income and more suburban voters in the sunshine state. Florida was a particularly crucial for Trump, whereas Biden could afford to lose it and still have a decent chance of winning the election. Florida is only surpassed in electoral college votes by safe Texas and California, with 38 and 58 respectively. More: Donald Trump US election 2020: What are this year’s swing states?
