Trump exchanged his hotel for a role in the film (Picture: 20th Century Fox/Getty) Donald Trump ‘bullied’ his way into his famous cameo in Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, according to director Chris Columbus. The President of the United States, who last week lost in the election to Joe Biden, appears in 1992 Christmas classic, as Kevin McCallister passes the real estate mogul in the Plaza Hotel and asks for directions to the lobby. At the time, it wasn’t that weird to see the businessman pop up in the New York-based film as himself, but it turns out Trump wasn’t offered the role by anyone on set. Columbus, who directed the first and second Home Alone movies, explained that to film in the Plaza Hotel, which Trump owned at the time, they had to give him a role in the family caper. He told Insider: ‘Trump said okay. We paid the fee, but he also said, “The only way you can use the Plaza is if I’m in the movie.” ‘So we agreed to put him in the movie, and when we screened it for the first time the oddest thing happened: People cheered when Trump showed up on screen. So I said to my editor, “Leave him in the movie. It’s a moment for the audience.” ‘But he did bully his way into the movie.’ This wasn’t the first time that Trump demanded a role in a film in exchange for use of his hotel, but when he tried this stunt with director Martin Brest when he was filming Scent Of A Woman, his scene ended up on the cutting room floor. Chris O’Donnell, who starred in the film with Al Pacino, Gabrielle Anwar and Philip Seymour Hoffman, told Conan O’Brien in 2017 he and the cast received script pages that ‘said we’re doing a scene with Donald Trump’. The actor explained: ‘It explained to us in that in order for us to film at the Plaza, we had a little walk-on part for Trump and [ex-wife] Marla [Maples]. ‘I won’t shy away from this, he said, “Yeah, they can shoot at the Plaza if they put me in the freakin’ movie.”’ More: Donald Trump China congratulates Biden saying they ‘respect the choice of the people’ Campaigners want execution of murderer who cut baby from pal halted Dr Fauci disagrees with Biden adviser calling for lockdown as US cases hit another record He confirmed that Trump’s cameo was cut from the movie. The sitting President has made quite a few cameos in his time, appearing in films including The Little Rascals, Zoolander and Two Weeks Notice and TV shows like Fresh Prince Of Bel Air and Sex And The City. Then, of course, Trump hosted The Apprentice from 2004 until 2015, before he decided to run for the White House. However, while we all settle down for Home Alone season, we doubt his film and TV career is at the forefront of his mind, as Trump contests the results of the US presidential election.
