A group of Donald Trump supporters is rescued after their boat sank at a parade backing the president in Lake Travis, Austin, on Saturday (Picture: Reuters) Donald Trump supporters were photographed flailing around in a lake after five boats sank at a flotilla organized to show support for the president. One man was filmed with his mouth hanging open and his hand over his eyes as he bobbed in Lake Travis near Austin, Texas, after Saturday’s sinking. Another man next to him was photographed clinging to a dinghy, while a third had donned a snorkel in an apparent attempt to save energy trying to stay above water. Travis County Sheriff’s Office said the flotilla – nicknamed the ‘Trumptilla’ had fallen victim to its own success after too many supporters took to the water That saw hundreds of boats moving around the relatively small body of water at the same time, creating such fierce wake turbulence in Lake Travis’s normally calm waters that some of the vessels involved began to take on water. Sheriff’s deputies received a total of 15 distress calls, with five boats sinking completely during the incident. Another three were able to be towed to safety before they sank to the bottom of the lake. No-one was injured in the sinkings. A woman was snapped with a look of apparent panic on her face after their boat was battered by wake turbulence caused by the sheer number of boats that turned out to support Trump (Picture: AP) One group of Trump supporters held up a banner referring to biracial Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris as ‘da hoe’ (Picture: AP) Another group of supporters had their boat decked out with pro-Trump, LGBT and police flags (Picture: AP) A widely-shared photo showing a white vessel with a red ‘Trump 2020’ flag protruding from its rear has since been debunked as a photoshopped fake. One group of Trump supporter’s at Saturday’s event were seen holding a flag emblazoned with the words ‘Vote No on Joe and Da Hoe.’ The slogan was aimed at Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, and appeared to take a racist dig at his Vice Presidential nominee Kamala Harris, who is biracial. Another boat was fitted out with a Trump flag, as well as an LGBT pride flag, and a third black and blue-colored stars and stripes flag aimed at showing support for the police. Similar events took place in New Jersey and Florida. One group of Trump supporters went all-out and decorated the side of their boat with a huge ‘Trump 2020’ decal (Picture: AP) One woman indicated her support for President Trump with a photo of a pair of bikini bottoms emblazoned with his name (Picture: AP) Current polls show Biden maintaining a comfortable lead over Trump ahead of the November 3 election. Those polls come amid criticism of the president’s handling of the coronavirus crisis, and claims he is stoking race riots that have continued in some US cities. Trump campaigners say they are confident the president will win re-election after picking up support from undecided voters who approve of his pro-law and order messaging. They also expect support from ‘shy Trump’ voters who won’t publicly admit their support for the divisive politician.
