Donald Trump has boasted about getting ‘VERY high marks’ for handling the coronavirus crisis as US deaths approached 190,000 (Pictures: AP/Getty) Donald Trump boasted that he is now getting ‘VERY high marks’ for his handling of ‘the China Virus’ as the US coronavirus death toll neared 190,000. The President of the United States tweeted Monday: ‘Starting to get VERY high marks in our handling of the Coronavirus (China Virus), especially when compared to other countries and areas of the world. ‘Now the Vaccines (Plus) are coming, and fast!’ Trump spoke despite the US having far more confirmed Covid-19 cases – 6.2million – than anywhere else in the world. India is currently in a distant second place, with 4.2million cases. He has promised to make vaccines ready as early as next month, although experts warn they’re unlikely to appear until 2021. The United States also has the world’s highest death toll, with 188,954 fatalities, according to data from Johns Hopkins University published on Monday morning. Brazil is in second place, wit 126,650 Covid-19 deaths. A coronavirus victim is covered in a blanket after dying at United Memorial Medical Hospital in Houston, Texas, in June (Picture: AP) Trump did not explain what he is getting ‘VERY high marks’ for, but shortly afterwards shared figures showing the US jobs market is rebounding in the wake of widespread coronavirus shutdowns. The president tweeted: ‘10.6 Million Jobs Created In Just 4 Months, A Record!!! ‘Biggest and Fastest Financial Recovery In History. Next year will be the best ever, unless a Sleepy person, who wants to massively raise your taxes, gets in. I’m which case, CRASH!!!’ Prior to coronavirus, Trump touted the strong US economy as his administration’s greatest achievement. He was subsequently accused of playing down the severity of the virus in its early days, over fears it would crash the US economy. Trump was further criticized for pushing states to reopen quickly, with many seeing a huge surge in coronavirus cases and deaths over the summer as they heeded Trump’s advice. US infections and deaths are now falling by around 15% a fortnight, although experts fear a second wave of cases could hit the country as cooler winter weather arrives. Trump will hold a press conference touting his economic prowess on Monday afternoon, amid polls showing him trailing Democratic rival Joe Biden ahead of the November 3 presidential election. The president and his supporters have repeatedly insisted he is on-track to win a second term in the White House.
