Maryanne Trump Barry ® made the remarks in private calls with her niece (Pictures: AP/Getty) Donald Trump has been called a ‘brat’, a ‘liar’ and a man ‘who has no principles’ by his own sister in a series of secretly recorded telephone calls. The scathing criticism was unleashed by the president’s older sibling Maryanne Trump Barry, 83, during what she thought were private conversations with her niece, Mary Trump. Mary recorded 15 hours worth of their calls between 2018 and 2019 and released the audio to the Washington Post on Saturday after writing a tell-all book about her uncle. The pair are heard discussing Trump’s policies on immigration, including separating the children of migrants from their parents. Maryanne says: ‘All he wants to do is appeal to his base. He has no principles. None. None. And his base, I mean my God, if you were a religious person, you want to help people. Not do this.’ She goes on to brand him ‘cruel’ and ‘phoney’ saying: ‘It’s the phoniness of it all. It’s the phoniness and this cruelty. Donald is cruel.’ At another point she says: ‘His goddamned tweet and lying, oh my God.’ She adds: ‘I’m talking too freely, but you know. The change of stories. The lack of preparation. The lying. Holy s**t.’ Maryanne, who worked as a federal judge, can also be heard saying that she guesses that her brother has never read her opinions on immigration cases. ‘What has he read?’ Mary Trump asks her aunt. She responds: ‘No. He doesn’t read.’ Mary Trump has just published a ‘tell-all’ book on her uncle (Picture: LinkedIn) The Trump family (L-R) brother Robert and his wife Blaine, Donald, his mother Mary; father Fred; and sister Maryanne (Picture: AP) (L-R) Robert, Elizabeth, Freddy, Donald and Maryanne (Picture: Trump Campaign) The recordings came to light just a day after the late Robert Trump, brother to Maryanne and the president, was memorialised in a service at the White House. Later, the president was dismissive of the recordings. ‘Every day it’s something else, who cares. I miss my brother, and I’ll continue to work hard for the American people,’ Trump said in a statement. ‘Not everyone agrees, but the results are obvious. Our country will soon be stronger than ever before.’ Mary Trump’s book ‘Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man’ was filled with attacks on her uncle. She has been challenged on where she got a lot of her information from but, until now, has declined to say. One of the book’s more headline-grabbing assertions was that President Trump had paid someone to take his SAT exams for him, allowing him to attend The University of Pennsylvania. Donald, Maryanne and Robert Trump at the opening of Taj Mahal Casino in 1990 (Picture: WireImage) Trump has denied the claim and it’s now been revealed that his sister was the source of this information as she’s heard relaying the story to Mary in the calls. She names a university friend of Trump’s, Joe Shapiro, as the person who took the test for him. He’s now deceased and widow and sister have said he never took a test for anybody. A spokesperson for Mary Trump, Chris Bastardi, said the recordings were necessary to protect her from accusations of lying, once the book was published. He said: ‘Mary realised members of her family had lied in prior depositions. Anticipating litigation, she felt it prudent to tape conversations in order to protect herself.’ The president has frequently spoken highly of his sister. The recordings are the first time a family member, outside of Mary Trump, has been critical of him. Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@metro.co.uk.
