Trumps handling of the coronavirus pandemic and the economic collapse has shaken voters confidence in him. (Picture: Bloomberg via Getty Images) During his most recent coronavirus briefing with the press in America, President of the United States Donald Trump shocked those watching when he suggested that injecting people with disinfectant could help treat coronavirus. The former TV star and businessman also went on to theorise that blasting light under the skin could also be tested as a potential treatment against Coivd-19. Trump’s concerning comments came after a top US government official stated that studies showed a combination of UV light and warmer temperatures could kill Covid-19 particles within minutes. Speaking at the conference on Thursday 24 April, Trump said: ‘Supposing we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light? And I think you said, that hasn’t been checked out, but you’re going to test it.’ The president, who has no scientific qualifications, continued: ‘And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. And I think you said you’re going to test that too. ‘I see the disinfectant, where it knocks out in a minute, one minute, and is there a way we can do something like that? By injection inside, or almost a cleaning. {“@context”:“https:\/\/schema.org”,“@type”:“VideoObject”,“name”:“Metro.co.uk”,“duration”:“T1M27S”,“thumbnailUrl”:“https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2020\/04\/24\/07\/27588836-0-image-a-10_1587710322137.jpg”,“uploadDate”:“2020-04-24T07:39:28+0100”,“description”:“President Donald Trump suggests that injecting people with disinfectant or blasting light under their skin could help treat coronavirus.”,“contentUrl”:“https:\/\/videos.metro.co.uk\/video\/met\/2020\/04\/24\/269661761381380546\/480x270_MP4_269661761381380546.mp4”,“height”:270,“width”:480} To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video ‘As you see, it gets in the lungs, and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it would be interesting to check that.’ What the experts have to say about Trump’s comments After Trump made his concerning comments regarding ‘injecting’ disinfectant as a way of fighting coronavirus, the President has been widely condemned, with experts fearing that people may follow his advice and potentially cause themselves serious harm. Although bleach and concentrated alcohol solutions have both been proven as effective in killing coronavirus on surfaces, the substances can be highly dangerous if ingested by humans. {“@context”:“https:\/\/schema.org”,“@type”:“VideoObject”,“name”:“Metro.co.uk”,“duration”:“T1M30S”,“thumbnailUrl”:“https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2020\/04\/24\/09\/27592806-0-image-a-1_1587717957886.jpg”,“uploadDate”:“2020-04-24T09:46:35+0100”,“description”:“‘I’m not a doctor’ says President Donald Trump after he suggests that 'applying light and heat’ can be used to treat coronavirus.”,“contentUrl”:“https:\/\/videos.metro.co.uk\/video\/met\/2020\/04\/24\/4295689574065654692\/480x270_MP4_4295689574065654692.mp4”,“height”:270,“width”:480}
