The President of the United States is said to be so nonchalant about his own impeachment that he is jokingly showing off the areas of the Oval Office study that triggered the last one. Politico reports that Trump is ‘playfully’ pointing out where former White House intern Lewinsky pleasured then-President Clinton after beginning an affair in 1995. Clinton’s infamous ‘I did not have sexual relations with that woman’ speech about Lewinsky, delivered while standing next to wife Hillary, was proven to be a lie. That saw him tried by the Senate for lying under oath and obstruction of office, although he was cleared of any wrongdoing and allowed to remain as president. A committee of the of US Congress’ lower house, the House of Representatives, is currently discussing whether to put their articles of impeachment – charges – to a full vote from fellow representatives. If passed, Trump could face a trial in the upper house – the Senate – in January and removed from office if two thirds or more of those Senators convict him. Trump is accused of dangling a coveted invitation to the White House in front of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in return for a favor. Trump wanted Zelensky to investigate his potential re-election rival Joe Biden’s son Hunter, and Hunter Biden’s position on the board of Ukrainian natural gas firm Burisma. Trump denies any wrongdoing, and has repeatedly branded the impeachment proceedings against him ‘a witch hunt.’
