Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage has suggested a truce with Boris Johnson and the Tories (Picture: AFP/Getty/EPA) Nigel Farage has proposed a truce between his Brexit Party and the Conservatives for the December 12 General Election. The former UKIP leader has been tight-lipped about his strategy despite mounting speculation, as he prepared to launch his campaign in Westminster this morning. But he has suggested the Brexit Party could be selective about where to stand candidates to avoid splitting the pro-leave vote. It comes after US President Donald Trump chipped in and said Johnson and Farage could become an ‘unstoppable force’ together. However the Conservative Party have repeatedly ruled out forging alliance with them. Donald Trump told Farage he likes the idea of an alliance on LBC last night (Picture: LBC) Speaking to LBC Farage said: ‘Some newspapers are suggesting that we will fight vast numbers of seats, others think we will fight as few as 20 seats. ‘I run a very tight ship, we don’t leak. I will reveal all later on today. ‘But I can assure you that most of what I say will be about Boris’ deal and the need, in my view, for some kind of Brexit alliance.’ This week senior figures in the party suggested the party should focus on 20 to 30 most Labour seats where voters opted to leave the European Union. But the scale of their election bid could be much greater than anticipated, amid concerns the party could be ‘no platformed’ at the election as a result of scaling back candidates. Although the party is expected to avoid standing candidates against ardent eurosceptic Tories, Mr Farage insists they will still contest hundreds of constituencies. Trump said the duo could be a ‘unstoppable force’ but the Tories have ruled out a pact (Picture: AP/Getty) Speaking to The Times, he dismissed suggestions about his strategy as ‘idle speculation’. Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick said: ‘We are not interested in doing any pacts with the Brexit Party or indeed with anybody else. We are in this to win it.’ Speaking to LBC on Halloween, President Trump said he supported the idea of a Johnson-Farage pact. He said: ‘When you are the president of the United States you have great relationships with many of the leaders, including Boris, he’s a fantastic man, and I think he’s the exact right guy for the times. ‘And I know that you and him will end up doing something that could be terrific if you and he get together as, you know, an unstoppable force.’ Farage has dismissed rumours about his strategy as ”idle speculation’ (Picture: PA) The POTUS said Johnson ‘respects’ the Brexit Party leader a lot and that the pair could achieve something ‘terrific’ together. But he criticised Johnson’s Brexit deal by claiming it hinders trade with the US. He added: ‘To be honest with you… under certain aspects of the deal… you can’t do it, you can’t do it, you can’t trade. ‘We can’t make a trade deal with the UK because I think we can do many times the numbers that we’re doing right now and certainly much bigger numbers than you are doing under the European Union.’ A Number 10 spokesman said: ‘Under this new deal the whole of the UK will leave the EU customs union, which means we can strike our own free trade deals around the world from which every part of the UK will benefit.’ More: Brexit Brexit Party could target Labour Leave seats ‘to clear out Remain Parliament’ Jeremy Corbyn taunts Boris over Brexit failure and pledges People’s Vote Happy non Brexit day: Is Brexit happening today and if not, why?
