Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn has officially launched his election campaign (Picture: Reuters) Jeremy Corbyn has launched Labour’s ‘ambitious and radical’ election campaign, vowing to take on the ‘tax dodgers, rogue landlords, polluters and bad bosses.’ He has pledged to create a country that works for the ‘many not the few’ and formally declared that Brexit would be put back to the people. Mr Corbyn’s speech comes on the day Boris Johnson failed to live up to his ‘do or die’ promise to deliver Brexit on Halloween. He said a Labour government would renegotiate with the EU and there would be a People’s Vote on it within six months – meaning another extension. Mr Corbyn also pledged to raise the minimum wage to £10 an hour and extend it to workers aged 16-18. He said there would be 30 hours of free childcare a week for all two-to-four-year-olds and an end to university tuition fees. He vowed to renationalise the water, rail and mail industries and commit to a ‘green industrial revolution’ that would create hundreds of thousands of jobs. Jeremy Corbyn has vowed that the NHS is not for sale (Picture: SWNS) The opposition leader addressed activists in central London, where he said that Labour would mastermind the ‘biggest people-powered election campaign in history.’ He declared: ‘Today we launch the most ambitious and radical campaign our country has ever seen: to bring real change to all parts of this country. ‘If you want to live in a society that works for everybody, not just the billionaires. ‘If you want to save our hospitals, schools and public services from Tory cuts and privatisation. ‘If you want to stop the big polluters destroying our environment, then this election is your chance to vote for it.’ {“@context”:“https:\/\/schema.org”,“@type”:“VideoObject”,“name”:“Metro.co.uk”,“duration”:“T1M6S”,“thumbnailUrl”:“https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2019\/10\/31\/11\/20421862-0-image-a-43_1572522181863.jpg”,“uploadDate”:“2019-10-31T11:36:09+0000”,“description”:“Corbyn on Johnson: ‘He has failed, and the failure is his alone’.”,“contentUrl”:“https:\/\/videos.metro.co.uk\/video\/backup\/2019\/10\/31\/3791091757826263878\/640x360_MP4_3791091757826263878.mp4”,“height”:360,“width”:640} To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Mr Corbyn vowed to ‘get Brexit sorted’ in six months and said Mr Johnson was solely to blame for the failure to meet today’s deadline. He pledged to broker a new deal with Brussels, which would be put back to the people with an option to Remain. He said: ‘Friends, today is October 31. The day Boris Johnson promised we would leave the EU. ‘He said he would rather be dead in a ditch than delay beyond today. ‘But he has failed. And that failure is his alone. ‘After three long years of Brexit division and failure from the Tories, we have to get this issue sorted. ‘We need to take it out of the hands of the politicians and trust the people to have the final say. ‘Labour will get Brexit sorted within six months. ‘We’ll let the people decide whether to leave with a sensible deal or remain. ‘That really isn’t complicated.’ Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn received a rapturous welcome at Battersea Arts Centre, London (Picture: SWNS) Mr Corbyn said that Mr Johnson’s renegotiated Brexit deal would in fact hand over £500 million a week of NHS money to big drug companies. He said the deal was a ‘one-sided Trump sell-out’ adding: ‘Labour won’t let Donald Trump get his hands on our National Health Service. ‘It’s not for sale – to him or anyone.’ The room at Battersea Arts Centre then erupted into chants of ‘not for sale.’ Mr Corbyn said Labour would create a ‘fairer society’ that is not run for the ‘benefit of billionaires and Tory donors.’ He said: ‘This election is a once-in-a-generation chance to transform our country, take on the vested interests holding people back and ensure that no community is left behind. ‘So, we’re going after the tax dodgers. We’re going after the dodgy landlords. We’re going after the bad bosses. We’re going after the big polluters. ‘Because we know whose side we’re on. Whose side are you on?’ Jeremy Corbyn said he expected Prime Minister Boris Johnson to ‘fight dirty’ (Picture: Getty) The General Election on December 12 will be the third time in four years that the nation has been to the polls. All 650 seats in the House of Commons will be up for grabs, but some parties could do tactical moves to avoid splitting the Remain or Leave voters. Mr Corbyn said that he expected the Tories – who he labelled the ‘establishment elite’ – to ‘fight harder and dirtier than ever before.’ But he said Labour would not be deterred, adding: ‘We have people. Hundreds of thousands of people in every part of our country who will make this the biggest people-powered election campaign in history of this country. ‘We’re young, we’re old, we’re black, we’re white, we’re straight, we’re gay, we’re women, we’re men, we’re people of all faiths and none, we’re from the north, we’re from the south… ‘And when Labour wins, the nurse wins, the pensioner wins, the student wins, the office worker wins, the engineer wins. We all win.’
