A view from the operation area where Isis leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi died on Sunday (Picture: Getty) Pictures and videos have emerged of the makeshift camp in north-west Syria where Isis leader Abu Bakr-al-Baghdadi was killed in overnight bombing. The Islamic State leader blew himself up after a US-led raid involving helicopters, drones and ground units that lasted for four hours. President Donald Trump confirmed al-Baghdadi died when he detonated an explosive vest, killing himself and three of his young children, after being surrounded by troops. The drama unfolded a few kilometres from the Tourlaha camp where civilians forced out by the fighting have taken refuge. At a press conference this afternoon, Mr Trump said the US had ‘brought the world’s number one terrorist leader to justice’ describing al-Baghdadi as a ‘coward’ who died ‘whimpering and crying’ after running into a ‘dead-end tunnel’. He added: ‘He died like a dog, he died like a coward. He was a sick and depraved man and now he’s gone.’ {“@context”:“https:\/\/schema.org”,“@type”:“VideoObject”,“name”:“Metro.co.uk”,“duration”:“T1M30S”,“thumbnailUrl”:“https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2019\/10\/27\/15\/20246804-0-image-a-29_1572188546641.jpg”,“uploadDate”:“2019-10-27T14:54:39+0000”,“description”:“Under Iraqi-born Baghdadi’s rule, Islamic State - which at one point controlled swathes of Syria and Iraq - is responsible for gruesome attacks against religious minorities and attacks on five continents in the name of a form of ultra-fanatical Islam.”,“contentUrl”:“https:\/\/videos.metro.co.uk\/video\/backup\/2019\/10\/27\/3587200220998646895\/640x360_MP4_3587200220998646895.mp4”,“height”:360,“width”:640} To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video President Trump confirmed al-Baghdadi was killed in strikes overnight (Picture: Getty) Britain’s foreign secretary Dominic Raab said the government would continue to support efforts to defeat Isis. He added: ‘Following the death of Daesh’s leader, we must not allow Daesh to glorify someone who actioned such inhumane and abhorrent criminal acts.’ US defence secretary Ben Wallace said: ‘Isis is one of the most murderous terrorist organisations of our generation. ‘Their leaders have twisted Islam to groom thousands of people into joining their evil cause. I welcome the action that has been taken. ‘The world will not miss al-Baghdadi.’ Al-Baghdadi blew himself up after he was surrounded by troops (Picture: Getty) A destroyed vehicle at the site where the operation was carried out (Picture: AFP) Footage of a raid emerged this morning, claiming to show the moment the terrorist leader died in a huge explosion. After the airstrike last night, Mr Trump tweeted: ‘Something very big has just happened!’. The president watched the raid on al-Baghdadi’s home from the White House and said the Isis leader had been under surveillance for several weeks. There were no American casualties in the bombing, he said. Mr Trump has faced strong criticism in recent weeks for withdrawing US troops from Syria, before Turkish military strikes on Kurdish forces across the north of the country.
