Truth In SatirePresident complained to aides that the annual economic summit “cuts into the time I can spend on tweet storms”The president shown here “tweeting blind” under the table at last year’s G-7, which he said he plans to do again this year. (Credit: http://www.zimbio.com) Donald Trump tried to avoid going to the G-7 Summit in France this weekend, even resisting boarding Air Force One on Friday night. According to White House sources who spoke off the record, the president felt that attending the annual conference with world leaders was a waste of his time, adding “I can just as easily destroy the world’s economy from here.” Earlier in the day, a series of angry tweets from Mr. Trump that threatened higher tariffs on China prompted a precipitous, 750-point drop in the U.S. stock market and lead to financial aftershocks across the globe. Mr. Trump also told several economic advisors on Friday before his departure that he believed he was more effective “causing chaos with my thumbs in Washington than sitting around a table with a bunch of boring world leaders in France. I saw what happened last year, it severely cuts into the time I can spend on disruptive tweet storms.” The president did say he was eager to sit down with Great Britain’s newly chosen Prime Minister Boris Johnson “because BoJo just gets me and knows how to play to the cameras like I do. He’s not going to let Merkel’s endless blabbing about some geopolitical nonsense get in the way of his air time. I like that in a guy.” Mr. Trump was referring to Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany, who is a bona fide world leader, unlike Mr. Johnson or himself. **** Thanks for reading.
