He then boasted the US had ‘crystal clean air’ and blamed ‘pollution’ on China, India and Russia. In an interview with Good Morning Britain, the president was pushed on the ‘very real and present danger’ posed by the climate crisis and asked if he believed it was a threat. Trump replied: ‘I believe that there is a change in weather, it used to be called global warming, then it was called climate change. Now it’s extreme weather.’ He said the Prince of Wales pushed him on the environmental threat of global warming and climate change and spoke passionately about protecting the planet for future generations. Donald Trump said he spoke to Prince Charles in detail about climate change (Picture: ITV/ GMB) The president said: ‘I think we had a great conversation and it was about – as you would call it – climate change. ‘His passion for future generations moved me – this is real, he believes that, he wants to have a world that’s good for future generations. ‘He is a member of the royal family, he doesn’t have to worry about future generations, in theory, unless hes a very good person.’ He added: ‘What he really wants and feels strongly about is the future. He wants to make sure future generations have good climate as opposed to a disaster. ‘And I agree.’ The climate crisis is said to be among topics the Theresa May spoke to Trump about when she met him at Number 10 yesterday. Donald and Melania Trump hosted Prince Charles and Camilla for dinner on Tuesday night (Picture: AFP/Getty) In 2018, the president accused climate experts of having a ‘political agenda’ and he has been accused of ignoring the scientific evidence on global warming. In a letter to the prime minister, 250 academics called on her to challenge the president, saying his ‘reckless approach is a threat to the whole world’. He said: ‘I did say the US has among the cleanest climates there are and its getting better. ‘I want the best water, I want crystal clean air. ‘You just said it, China, India, Russia, they have not very good air, not very good water, in certain cities you can’t even breathe.’ He challenged the theory that tackling climate change should be a global effort, saying: ‘You’re talking about a very small distance between them.’ Got a story for Metro.co.uk?
