(Credit: siouxlandnews.com) Nathan Phillips, a 64-year-old elder of Nebraska’s Omaha tribe, who is also a Vietnam veteran, was peacefully singing and dancing during the Indigenous People’s March along with other tribal members when the Catholic high school teens began to mock and intimidate him. This is the first declaration of war by Native Americans against white teens since 1884. In that year, President Chester A. Arthur declared that America’s teenage boys must attend high school. In response, the teenagers rebelled by setting forest fires on sacred indigenous lands until they were forced back to school by Native American warriors. Native Americans feel that Donald Trump has provoked attacks and intimidation against them.
