Caitlyn is appalled by the proposed new policy (Picture: Greg Doherty/Getty Images) Caitlyn Jenner has spoken out against President Donald Trump following the proposed policy which would narrow the definition of gender to male or female at birth. Caitlyn, who completed her gender reassignment surgery in January 2017 after coming out as transgender two years prior, voted from Trump in the 2016 election, hoping that he would continue the progress of LGBTQ+ rights. However, the 68-year-old has now accused the POTUS of ‘ferociously attacking’ the transgender community following the leak of a memo from the Department of Health and Human Services. The memo, acquired by the New York Times, revealed that the department is considering a new legal definition of sex that is ‘determined by genitalia at birth’ and cannot be changed. Speaking to People magazine, Caitlyn said: ‘The Trump administration has ferociously attacked my community again. Just as an FYI Mr. President— the military is the single largest employer of trans people in the world. ‘This leaked memo is an unacceptable attack on my community. We will not be erased!’ The reality star – who is father to Kendall and Kylie Jenner – also shared an image to Instagram of the transgender flag with the repeated slogan ‘Trans people won’t be erased’, with Trump tagged in the caption. Caitlyn is a lifelong Republican and was criticised for her support of Trump in the presidential election. Trump’s new policy would effectively erase trans identities (Picture: The Asahi Shimbun via Getty Images) However, despite her initial support of the former businessman and reality star, she has spoken out on numerous occasions, including when Trump proposed transgender people be banned from enlisting in the military and when he attempted to lift protections that guaranteed transgender students the right to choose locker rooms and bathrooms matching their chosen identity. Speaking in August to Variety, Caitlyn said: ‘I honestly don’t know what happened when he got in there. It was extraordinarily disappointing.’ Caitlyn is among the trans celebrities who joined the chorus of outrage following the leaked memo.
