Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi died in a ‘fistfight’ in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, the kingdom claimed today. Initially they said he had left the building unharmed but now have finally admitted that the government critic was killed at their diplomatic post. The authorities said that 18 Saudi suspects were in custody and intelligence officials had been fired. Saudi journalist and former editor-in-chief of the Saudi newspaper Al-Watan Jamal Khashoggi is confirmed to have died (Picture: EPA) The death is certain to ramp up pressure on US President Donald Trump and other western countries who have been keen to trade with Saudi Arabia. This morning, Democrats and human rights groups said the claim that the journalist died in a fight was ‘not credible.’ Donald Trump has said he believes Saudi Arabia is telling the truth.
