The president has again tried to call the election prematurely (Picture: EPA) Donald Trump has taken to Twitter in a rant falsely claiming again that he has won the election despite there being hundreds of thousands of votes left to count. In what is believed to be the closest US presidential election in history, a clear winner has not yet been determined as several crucial swing states are still counting mail-in ballots. The president has already had legal bids turned down to stop counting early, amid false claims that the Democrats are tampering with ballots, but was back on Twitter in the early hours of this morning insisting the ‘U.S. Supreme Court should decide!’ Trump wrote: ‘I easily WIN the Presidency of the United States with LEGAL VOTES CAST. The OBSERVERS were not allowed, in any way, shape, or form, to do their job and therefore, votes accepted during this period must be determined to be ILLEGAL VOTES. U.S. Supreme Court should decide!’ The president again falsely claimed electoral fraud has been committed (Picture: Twitter) Former vice-president Joe Biden offered reassurances to the public that the counting could be trusted, projecting a more presidential appearance while urging patience over the result from Americans. Biden is currently leading with 264 electoral votes, according to AP, while Trump has 214 – whoever reaches 270 takes the top job. There are still several key states hanging in the balance, including Nevada, North Carolina, Georgia and Pennsylvania. Trump and his Democratic rival are separated by just 1,775 votes in Georgia. The key battleground of Pennsylvania remains too close to call, but Biden only needs to win that state or Georgia to claim the presidency. Trump is facing a tougher task – he needs to be victorious in both states as well as North Carolina and Nevada. Twitter has already censored the president’s tweets over unfound claims regarding mail-in ballots (Picture: Twitter) {“@context”:“https:\/\/schema.org”,“@type”:“VideoObject”,“name”:“Metro.co.uk”,“duration”:“T16M42S”,“thumbnailUrl”:“https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2020\/11\/06\/00\/35314890-0-image-a-3_1604621712041.jpg”,“uploadDate”:“2020-11-06T00:22:02+0000”,“description”:“Donald Trump: ‘If you count the legal votes, I easily win. One of Trump’s tweets was censored by Twitter, with a message saying the content may be ‘misleading’. The social media site has been quickly moving to fact check the president’s tweets during the election and blocked several unfounded statements and conspiracy theories. The president dramatically tweeted yesterday to ‘STOP THE COUNT’ and falsely claimed any vote that came through after election day would not be counted, which was again censored by Twitter. Biden took a different tack, speaking briefly to reporters after attending a Covid-19 briefing to declare that ‘each ballot must be counted’. ‘I ask everyone to stay calm. The process is working,’ he said. ‘It is the will of the voters. No one, not anyone else who chooses the president of the United States of America.’ A pro Trump protester acts like Joe Biden as protesters of both candidates gather aroun the Convention Center in Philadelphia (Picture: Zuma Press) The Trump administration has filed lawsuits in Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Georgia and Pennsylvania due to what he feels is improper counting of the vote. The president made the same claims on Thursday night during a speech at the White House – but offered no evidence to back up his claims. He said he found it ‘amazing how those mail-in ballots are so one-sided’ and claimed the Democrats are trying to ‘steal the election from us’. It comes after two armed men were arrested for ‘planning to attack’ the Pennsylvania Convention Center where votes are still being counted. They drove from Virginia to Philadelphia but were stopped in a Hummer on the way by police who said they had a tip-off about their plans. A weapon is believed to have been found in the vehicle. Dozens of the president’s supporters – with some carrying guns – also descended on a counting centre in Marciopa County, Arizona, on Wednesday night demanding workers count every vote.
