A spokesperson said: ‘We respect the choice of the American people.’ (Picture: Reuters) China has congratulated Joe Biden on being elected the new US president. It has become the last major country to do so, having delayed the comments for several days although the Democrat was announced the winner of the US election on Saturday. Foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said: ‘We respect the choice of the American people. We congratulate Mr. Biden and (vice presidential running mate) Ms. Harris.’ Referring to current president Donald Trump’s legal battle, Mr Wenbin added: ‘At the same time, the result will be confirmed according to US laws and procedures.’ The comments were made at a daily press conference in Beijing.
