Some claim this Melania looks different in this picture (Picture: REX) A wild conspiracy theory that Donald Trump is using a body double to stand-in for his wife has re-surfaced because of a photo showing Melania apparently not looking herself. #FakeMelania has been trending on Twitter because of the picture, which shows the president and his wife boarding Marine One on the south lawn of the White House earlier this week. It was taken as the couple travelled to the final presidential debate in Nashville and was the first time they were seen in public together after both contracted coronavirus. Melania is seen smiling while wearing dark glasses but some have pointed out her smile is different to normal and her teeth structure isn’t the same as in previous pictures. Proponents of the conspiracy theory claim the president has had to resort to hiring an actress to play his wife because she is reluctant to accompany him on campaign trips. Film director Zack Bornstein was one of the first to Tweet, writing: ‘The only thing I’ll miss from this administration is them swapping in new Melanias and just pretending we won’t notice like a 4-year-old with a guppy.’ Referencing a story that Melania reportedly hates having to decorate the White House at Christmas, he later added: ‘I never believed the #FakeMelania conspiracies, but you can tell this 100% isn’t her, because she’s looking fondly at a Christmas tree in the distance.’ Others have spoofed the bizarre conspiracy theory by sharing pictures of Mr Trump standing next to people who clearly aren’t the First Lady. Can we have a serious discussion about #FakeMelania pic.twitter.com/dajeseb8Hr — Ben Meiselas (@meiselasb) October 25, 2020 Swipe these two photos back & forth. Notice the two front teeth. Melania’s are more squared…THAT AIN’T HER in the other photo. #FakeMelania pic.twitter.com/ge18TBarhy — BlueinaRedState (@RedStateBlues20) October 25, 2020 Not usually one for conspiracy theories but look closely at the teeth – it’s not her #FakeMelania pic.twitter.com/d3Rakxvzf0 — Sarah Dempster (@Dempster2000) October 25, 2020 Everybody’s so busy pointing out #FakeMelania in this photo that no one’s noticed that John Barrowman’s flying the helicopter. pic.twitter.com/fh51r3alRh — Beau(cial distancing) (@DrBeauBeaumont) October 25, 2020 Was uncertain about the #FakeMelania thing until I saw the photos. Look carefully – the tie, the hair, the glasses and the mouth. It’s definitely someone else. pic.twitter.com/mnCoGVxkOz — Otto English (@Otto_English) October 25, 2020 Oh come on, they’re not even trying now. #FakeMelania pic.twitter.com/o3Fya8n5rm — Andy (@Andy_Westfield) October 25, 2020 #fakemelania How it started How it’s going pic.twitter.com/w6sgvv6NqF — TheQueerGuy (@TheQueerGuy) October 25, 2020 #fakemelania im not an expert but the hair is a bit diferent …. pic.twitter.com/pmxQHihRYA — Juan donaire (@Juanjelondon) October 25, 2020 The internet has been obsessed with the idea that different women have been standing in for the president’s wife ever since the rumours first went viral in 2017. People have previously pointed to pictures that apparently showed Melania looking like she was a different height, compared to previous public appearances or had different hair and bone structures. Mr Trump has himself addressed the conspiracy theory in the past, calling it ‘fake news.’ Other politicians have also been accused of hiring body doubles, including Hilary Clinton who, some said, used a stand-in after she became ill during the last presidential race. The couple were cheered on by crowds as they departed the White House (Picture: Getty Images) Melania was later picture pulling her hand away from her Husband’s grasp (Picture: EPA) It was the first time the couple have been out in public since both contracted Covid-19 (Picture: Getty) U.S. President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump on stage after the final presidential debate against Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden (Picture: Getty Images) Melania has only just starting appearing in public with her husband again after her brush with Covid-19. The couple were photographed smiling together on the White House lawn before Mr Trump went head-to-head with Democrat nominee Joe Biden in front of the cameras. But footage captured at the end of the clash showed Melania apparently abruptly pulling her hand away from Mr Trump’s as they left the stage. Questions have been asked about the First Lady’s absence on the campaign trail after she decided against appearing at several key events in the run-up to the vote. Her spokesperson said she’s been playing it safe because she still had a lingering cough after recovering from the disease. Other sources told CNN she has been ‘simply doing what she likes’.
