The president started talking to a group at the front of his audience in Fayetteville, North Carolina, on Saturday, and said he recognised them. ‘Oh there they are. How many of these have you come to?’ he asked. ‘What, like 90? They’re great… I see them all over the place. I hope your husbands are okay with it. {“@context”:“https:\/\/schema.org”,“@type”:“VideoObject”,“name”:“Metro.co.uk”,“duration”:“T25S”,“thumbnailUrl”:“https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2020\/09\/22\/07\/33469380-0-image-a-4_1600755855139.jpg”,“uploadDate”:“2020-09-22T07:21:55+0100”,“description”:“The US President has been slammed for asking a group of women at a rally in Fayetteville, North Carolina if their husbands ‘are ok with you being here?’.”,“contentUrl”:“https:\/\/videos.metro.co.uk\/video\/met\/2020\/09\/22\/666872221469394210\/960x540_MP4_666872221469394210.mp4”,“height”:540,“width”:960} To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video ‘Are they okay? They’re okay. They have good husbands.’ Some of his supporters began laughing in the audience, but his comments soon shocked people watching online. One Twitter user said Trump’s ‘misogyny will always come spilling out it’s so ingrained he can’t help himself’. Another wrote: ‘And there it is. That’s what they believe makes America great, women asking permission to do things.’ Donald Trump is taking his campaign to key mid-western states (Picture: Reuters) One user said they were not just disturbed by the idea that women need ‘permission’ from their husbands, but the president’s suggestion their husbands ‘would be jealous’. Before his 2016 election run, Trump’s campaign was rocked when a tape emerged showing the then-reality star share pick-up tips in 2006. Describing his attitude to women, Trump said: ‘I don’t even wait. And when you’re a star, they let you do it. ‘You can do anything. … Grab ‘em by the pussy. You can do anything.’ The subsequent outrage prompted a rare public apology from Trump, but it didn’t affect his presidential bid, as went on to beat Hillary Clinton just weeks later.
