Comedian/ actor/ rapper Donald J. Trump’s new hour-long stand-up special “Donald Trump: Live At The Republican National Convention” may be his laziest work yet. For a comic that used to perform culturally explosive routines that inspired national controversy, he feels like a shell of the performer he used to be. His iconic jokes from back in the day like “Mexicans are rapists” and “grab ’em by the pussy” were admittedly unfunny, but at least they were unique. But now, his joke structure has become non-existent, with long-winded rants that have no punchlines. And his countless jokes about “Law & Order” feel unoriginal since John Mulaney has already done jokes about that show. He even does multiple, irrelevent bits about former vice president Joe Biden for some reason. Joe hasn’t been vice president for a while now, why is he even talking about him? He even has a joke about Hillary Clinton, which feels dated since “Lizzie McGuire” has been off the air for over 15 years. The (obviously drunk) DC audience constantly ruins any sense of momentum by cheering and applauding for no reason. That being said, they never laugh. Even his own fans have noticed that their favorite comedian has given up on writing new shit. At the end of the day, Donald Trump is one of the most popular comedians in the country, and his rabid fanbase will probably eat this special up. But for those of you are who aren’t already Donny stans, this new special isn’t likely to convert you. SCORE: 4/10 Only recommended for socially awkward incels and people who think wrestling is real.
