Joe Biden, pictured last month, has apologized for suggesting all black people share the same political beliefs (Picture: Getty) Gaffe-prone presidential nominee Joe Biden has apologized after suggesting all black people have the same opinions. The Democratic presidential hopeful said sorry for the sweeping generalization in a series of tweets Thursday, writing: ‘In no way did I mean to suggest the African-American community is a monolith — not by identity, not on issues, not at all.’ The 77 year-old former vice president sparked condemnation over an interview with black and latino voters on Thursday, which saw him say: ‘Unlike the African-American community, with notable exceptions, the Latino community is an incredibly diverse community with incredibly diverse attitudes about different things.’ Biden’s groveling apology in the aftermath of his comments contradicted his earlier statement, saying: ‘Throughout my career I’ve witnessed the diversity of thought, background, and sentiment within the African American community. ‘It’s this diversity that makes our workplaces, communities, and country a better place. My commitment to you is this: I will always listen, I will never stop fighting for the African American community and I will never stop fighting for a more equitable future.’ Biden apologized as Donald Trump called Thailand ‘Thighland’ during a speech at a washing machine factory in Clyde, Ohio (Picture: EPA) It comes less than three months after he sparked fury with a similar generalization during another interview by saying: ‘If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black.’ While Biden is extremely popular among African-American and Hispanic voters, political analysts have warned he should not take them for granted, or risk alienating swing voters who are torn between opting for him or Trump in the November 3 presidential election. And President Trump himself seized on Biden’s blunder Friday morning, tweeting: ‘After yesterday’s statement, Sleepy Joe Biden is no longer worthy of the Black Vote!’ Biden, a former Delaware senator, and 74 year-old President Trump have both faced questions over their cognitive abilities in recent months. Biden hit out at a reporter earlier this week who questioned his mental prowess by asking the journalist whether he’d taken a cocaine test while going on air. Meanwhile, President Trump referred to Thailand as ‘Thighland’ during a speech at a Whirlpool washing machine factory in Clyde, Ohio, on Thursday evening.
