Linkin Park insist they do not endorse President Trump (Picture: Getty Images) Linkin Park has issued a cease and desist against President Donald Trump after he shared a campaign-style video featuring their music. Trump had retweeted a video originally posted by his White House social media director Dan Scavino, before Twitter removed it citing a copyright complaint from the owner. The video reportedly featured Linkin Park’s 2001 song In The End but the band claimed they did not give permission for their music to be used. A tweet from the group’s Twitter account stated: ‘Linkin Park did not and does not endorse Trump, nor authorize his organization to use any of our music. A cease and desist has been issued.’ It’s believed Trump’s administration received a Digital Millennium Copyright Act notice from Linkin Park’s record label Machine Shop Entertainment. A spokesperson for Twitter told The Guardian: ‘We respond to valid copyright complaints sent to us by a copyright owner or their authorised representatives.’ Twitter disabled the video citing a copyright complaint (Picture: @danscavino) Linkin Park has made their feelings about Trump clear in the past. In 2017, late frontman Chester Bennington tweeted: ‘I repeat….. Trump is a greater threat to the USA than terrorism!! We have to take back our voices and stand for what we believe in.’ Several other musicians have sent cease and desists after their music featured in Trump’s campaign videos and rallies, including the Rolling Stones, Neil Young and Panic! at the Disco. In June, the Rolling Stones threatened to sue the US president after his administration continued to use their music at campaign rallies. A rep for the legendary rock band said at the time: ‘This could be the last time Trump uses any Jagger/ Richards songs on his campaigns. ‘The BMI have notified the Trump campaign on behalf of the Stones that the unauthorized use of their songs will constitute a breach of its licensing agreement. If Donald Trump disregards the exclusion and persists then he would face a lawsuit for breaking the embargo and playing music that has not been licensed.’ More: Donald Trump Linkin Park issue Trump with cease and desist over song use US sets world record with over 77,000 new infections in one day Donald Trump rants about dishwashers as US sees record 77,000 new coronavirus cases Twitter has disabled several of Trump’s tweets in recent months for either copyright complaints or violations of a policy against threatening violence. In May, the social media platform also issued a warning label on one of the president’s tweets, stating he had violated their rules against ‘glorifying violence’. Trump had tweeted his support for police officers in Minneapolis to use tough measures during the protests following the death of George Floyd. Got a showbiz story?
