Donald Trump talked dishwashers, light bulbs and shower heads as the US hit a new one-day record of coronavirus diagnoses on Thursday (Pictures: Getty) Donald Trump ranted about dishwashers and lightbulbs at an unofficial campaign rally as the US recorded a record 77,000 coronavirus cases in a single day. Speaking at the White House Thursday evening, the President of the United States railed against the impact of environmental regulations on common household appliances. He said: ‘So shower-heads, you take a shower, the water does not come out. You want to wash your hands, the water does not come out. So what do you do? You just stand there longer? Because my hair, I don’t know about you, but it has to be perfect.’ Turning his attention to dishwashers, Trump continued: ‘Dishwashers, you didn’t have any water, so you – the people that do the dishes, you press it and it goes again. ‘And you do it again and again. So you might as well give them the water because you’ll end up using less water. So we made it so dishwashers now have a lot more water and in many places, in most places of the country, water is not a problem. They don’t know what to do with it. It’s called rain.’ {“@context”:“https:\/\/schema.org”,“@type”:“VideoObject”,“name”:“Metro.co.uk”,“duration”:“T1M30S”,“thumbnailUrl”:“https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2020\/07\/17\/13\/30878968-0-image-m-49_1594990153486.jpg”,“uploadDate”:“2020-07-17T13:47:04+0100”,“description”:“President Donald Trump rants about dishwashers and lightbulbs as US sees record 77k coronavirus cases.”,“contentUrl”:“https:\/\/videos.metro.co.uk\/video\/met\/2020\/07\/17\/7474085795040768947\/480x270_MP4_7474085795040768947.mp4”,“height”:270,“width”:480} To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Visit our live blog for the latest updates: Coronavirus news live The president also heaped praise on himself for reviving incandescent lightbulbs, which had been banned in favor of environmentally-friendly fluorescent and LED bulbs. He said: ‘I brought them back. They have two nice qualities: they’re cheaper and they’re better. They look better, they make you look so much better. That’s important to all of us.’ Trump’s hour-long diatribe was his second in a week, and also took aim at election rival Joe Biden amid multiple polls showing the former vice president proving more popular among voters. He decorated the White House rose garden with Chevrolet pick-up trucks bearing weights, and a crane emblazoned with a banner saying ‘Trump Administration.’ The president is said to be itching to get back to his large campaign rallies, which have fallen foul of the coronavirus pandemic and ongoing social distancing measures. It shattered the previous one-day record of 69,070 cases recorded last Friday. A total of 969 people also died – the highest figure since mid June, amid fears the daily death toll will begin to rise in the coming weeks as the increased number of patients hospitalized with coronavirus succumb to the disease. The United States has diagnosed more than 3.5million people with coronavirus, and more than 138,000 have died as a result.
