Donald Trump has questioned whether injured protester Martin Gugino, pictured injured on a sidewalk, exaggerated the force with which police shoved him to the ground (Pictures: AP/Reuters) Donald Trump has accused a 75 year-old protester left with a cracked skull after being shoved to the ground by cops of being a faker. The President of the United States accused Martin Gugino of exaggerating Tuesday in a tweet that said: ‘Buffalo protester shoved by Police could be an ANTIFA provocateur. ’75 year old Martin Gugino was pushed away after appearing to scan police communications in order to black out the equipment. @OANN I watched, he fell harder than was pushed. Was aiming scanner. Could be a set up?’ The president tagged One America News – a conservative TV network he has grown to favor – in a tweet that appeared to side with the two cops now charged with assaulting Gugino. A widely-shared video of the encounter shows Gugino – who remains seriously ill in hospital – appearing to point an unidentified white device at officers in Buffalo, New York, moments before being pushed to the ground last Thursday. Blood was seen oozing out of Gugino’s skull onto the sidewalk afterwards. {“@context”:“https:\/\/schema.org”,“@type”:“VideoObject”,“name”:“Metro.co.uk”,“duration”:“T37S”,“thumbnailUrl”:“https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2020\/06\/05\/06\/29251694-0-image-a-7_1591335954513.jpg”,“uploadDate”:“2020-06-05T06:45:27+0100”,“description”:“A 75-year-old man is hospitalised in a serious condition after police stated he ‘tripped and fell’ at a protest against police brutality in Buffalo, New York.\n\nBuffalo Mayor Byron Brown announced two officers have been suspended without pay after the video came to light.”,“contentUrl”:“https:\/\/videos.metro.co.uk\/video\/met\/2020\/06\/05\/6418416497482970371\/640x360_MP4_6418416497482970371.mp4”,“height”:360,“width”:640} To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Aaron Torgalski and Robert McCabe have been named as the cops in the clip, with both suspended from their jobs without pay, and charged with second-degree assault. The pair appeared in court Saturday, and were freed ahead of their next court appearance. They were condemned by Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo, who backed the decision to charge the men, and said their actions made him feel ‘physically sick.’ All 57 of Buffalo PD’s Emergency Response team resigned from their duties in support of the McCabe and Torgalski, although those officers have not quit the force in its entirety. Buffalo Police Department sparked fury after releasing a statement claiming Gugino had tripped despite video evidence to the contrary, with Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown also backing those cops. He branded Gugino an ‘agitator’ and claimed the protester had been repeatedly asked to move out of the way before being shoved. He has hit out at Minneapolis’s plans to dismantle its police force after one of its officers allegedly murdered Floyd. The president also retweeted a comment from former Ronald Reagan staffer Ed Rollings Tuesday claiming his rival Joe Biden – who currently opposes dismantling police forces – would ‘flip flop’ on the issue if elected.
