This Weak in Politics, Vol. 236 June 4, 2020 This week, the image of Donald trump as the alpha-male tough guy, an image believed by three people — Donald Trump, Mike Pence (sp?), and Lindsey Graham, was this week put to bed… a dormitory style bed in an underground bunker where Donald Trump spent part of the week hiding. It has been a hellacious week, and images drove the news. As such, and due to perhaps a touch of fatigue, we have decided this week’s issue will be a pictorial week in review! (This pictures only approach has an added benefit — now Trump supporters can follow along too!) The basic outline of the story is this: in response to four centuries of systemic, government-sanctioned oppression, culminating (at least for now) in the on-camera murder of yet another unarmed black man, large portions of the American people took to the streets to say enough is enough. In particular, African Americans and lots of women rose up. And if there are two things our “president” is afraid of, they are African Americans and women. As such, our president went in to full on Chicken Little mode, hiding, acting out of fear, and posing as a tough guy. We’ll let the pictures tell the story of the week’s news. First, it seems the president may have misunderstood the message. Reading has never been his strength. Once he succeeded in making black lives madder, the president’s flight or flight instincts kicked in. “Sir, the people want justice, fairness, equality, and leadership.” https://ift.tt/3ePswPK For the Hunter S. Thompson fans out there… Fear and Loathing in Las Basement For the Civil War buffs… For 70s era sitcom fans… For 70s era crime recidivism prevention fans (admittedly, a very niche group)… Angered by the accurate portrayal of him as a coward, the president decided it was time to act… Though some argue he may have been overcompensating for something. His trip to St. John’s didn’t help erase that view… In short, just another week in Trump’s America. And that’s the way the weak spent the week in a nation where, despite there being a pandemic, the president wants us all to go back to normal. When people were allowed to pray, eat, kill unarmed black people, and go to their favorite bar. In fact, though he’s not a drinker, here’s the president offering a toast to the new normal.
