Joe Exotic’s lawyers are reportedly seeking a presidential pardon (Picture: Netflix/AP) Tiger King’s Joe Exotic is seeking a presidential pardon from Donald Trump in a desperate bid to overturn his criminal conviction. The former zookeeper – whose real name is Joseph Maldanado-Passage – is currently serving a 22-year sentence for a murder for hire charge against former enemy Carole Baskin, as well as a number of animal abuse charges. According to TMZ, sources connected to Exotic have alleged that ‘the star’s legal team in Texas is preparing a case file that will be sent on to Trump, claiming Joe was wrongly convicted for the murder-for-hire plot against Carole Baskin.’ This comes one month after President Donald Trump said he’ll ‘look into’ pardoning Exotic. The leader told reporters during a press conference that he hadn’t seen the record-breaking Netflix documentary series, which delves into the wild world of big cat collectors and conservationists, but will do some research. Trump’s pledge came after one journalist asked: ‘One of the biggest rating hits of the coronavirus, aside from these briefings, is a show on Netflix called Tiger King. Joe Exotic is currently serving a 22-year prison sentence (Picture: Netflix) ‘The man who is the star of this, a former zoo owner, is serving a 22-year prison sentence, he’s asking you for a pardon, that he was unfairly convicted, your son jokingly said he’d advocate for it and I was wondering if you’d seen the show and had any thoughts on pardoning Joe Exotic?’ ‘I know nothing about his 22 years so what did he do?’ responded Trump.
