Donald Trump hit out at coronavirus tests on Friday for giving accurate results (Picture: Getty) Donald Trump has hit out at coronavirus tests for giving accurate results after a second senior White House staffer tested positive for Covid-19. The President of the United States made the nonsensical comment after being asked about Vice President Mike Pence’s press secretary Katie Miller’s diagnosis on Friday. He said: ‘This is why the whole concept of tests aren’t necessarily great. ‘The tests are perfect, but something can happen between a test where it’s good and then something happens and all of a sudden.’ ‘She was tested very recently and tested negative and then today, I guess, for some reason, she tested positive. Mike knows about it and he has done what he has to do… They’ve taken all of the necessary precautions.’ President Trump came under fire for being slow to react at the start of the pandemic, and for the United States’ initial sluggish attempts to begin mass-testing, which scientists say helps establish the scale of the problem, and tracks down potential clusters of Covid-19 patients who could be infecting others. {“@context”:“https:\/\/schema.org”,“@type”:“VideoObject”,“name”:“Metro.co.uk”,“duration”:“T1M21S”,“thumbnailUrl”:“https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2020\/05\/09\/12\/28194316-0-image-a-7_1589024073253.jpg”,“uploadDate”:“2020-05-09T12:31:34+0100”,“description”:“Trump comments on the effectiveness of testing”,“contentUrl”:“https:\/\/videos.metro.co.uk\/video\/met\/2020\/05\/09\/3006504320709999951\/640x360_MP4_3006504320709999951.mp4”,“height”:360,“width”:640} To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Coronavirus updates Visit our live blog for the latest updates: Coronavirus news live People with coronavirus may not test positive for the disease for several days afterwards, and some people who get infected do not display any symptoms at all. Miller is the second senior White House staffer to test positive for coronavirus this week. Her result was announced on Friday, two days after a US Navy valet who works closely with the president and his family tested positive for Covid-19. President Trump, Vice President Pence and other senior government officials are now having daily coronavirus tests to try and minimize the risk of the virus spreading in the White House. Miller and the unnamed valet have taken time off to recover from the virus. More than 1.3million people across the US are confirmed to have been infected, with more than 78,000 killed.
