President Donald Trump says he hopes Kim Jong-un is ‘fine’ (Picture: AP) Donald Trump has suggested that North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un is alive. The USA President, who has met Mr Kim at various peace summits, claims to have ‘a very good idea’ about his North Korean counterpart’s condition, amid persistent rumours about his health. Mr Trump said he was unable to say ‘exactly’ how he is, before going on to claim the two countries would be at war if he were not in charge. Asked by reporters outside the White House about Mr Kim’s condition, he replied: ‘I can’t tell you exactly. Yes, I do have a very good idea, but I can’t talk about it now… I hope he is fine. I do know how he is doing, relatively speaking, we will see, you will probably be hearing in the not too distant future.’ {“@context”:“https:\/\/schema.org”,“@type”:“VideoObject”,“name”:“Metro.co.uk”,“duration”:“T48S”,“thumbnailUrl”:“https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2020\/04\/28\/08\/27737330-0-image-a-37_1588059094609.jpg”,“uploadDate”:“2020-04-28T08:26:51+0100”,“description”:“‘I do know how he’s doing’: Donald Trump suggests Kim Jong-un is alive, but won’t say any more apart from wishing him well.”,“contentUrl”:“https:\/\/videos.metro.co.uk\/video\/met\/2020\/04\/28\/6796319187802017444\/640x360_MP4_6796319187802017444.mp4”,“height”:360,“width”:640} To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A top South Korean official has recently cast doubt on claims that Mr Kim is in poor health – or even dead. Unification minister Kim Yeon-chul said that South Korea has ‘enough intelligence to confidently say that there are no unusual developments’ in its neighbouring country. The country has repeatedly insisted that Mr Kim appeared to be handling state affairs normally. Rumours and conflicting reports began to swirl after Mr Kim missed the commemoration of the 108th birthday of his grandfather, North Korea’s founder Kim Il Sung, on April 15. Mr Kim is the third generation of his family to rule North Korea, and he had not missed the event – one of the most important in the North – since assuming power when his father Kim Jong Il’s died in late 2011. Yet North Korean state media silence about its leaders whereabouts have fuelled further speculation. Recent satellite photos released on Saturday by 38 North – a website specialising in North Korea studies – showed that a train thought to belong to Mr Kim has been parked at his compound on the country’s east coast since last week. File photo of North Korean leader Mr Kim (Picture: Reuters) The site said: ‘The train’s presence does not prove the whereabouts of the North Korean leader or indicate anything about his health, but it does lend weight to reports that Kim is staying at an elite area on the country’s eastern coast.’ Mr Kim, believed to be in his late 30s, has previously disappeared from public view, with a six week absence in 2014. There have been conflicting reports about his healt, with speculation around his weight, smoking and use of a walking stick. Speaking yesterday evening, the USA President continued: ‘I just wish him well, I have had a very good relationship with Kim Jong-un, if I weren’t president you’d be at war, you would’ve been at war with Korea, you would’ve been at war with North Korea if I wasn’t president. ‘That I can tell you, he expected that. That I can tell you.’ Mr Trump has met Mr Kim at a series of meetings designed to ease tensions between the North and South, with Mr Kim undertaking a number of military tests widely seen as provocative – and threatening peace in the region.
