Jeff Goldblum was in tears over a RuPaul Drag Race star’s speech (Picture: VH1) Jeff Goldblum was left in tears over a RuPaul’s Drag Race star Jackie Cox’s speech about LGBTQ and Islam. The Jurassic Park actor was a guest judge on an episode of the 12th season, in which the seven remaining queens walked a runway with a patriotic Stars & Stripes theme. Iranian-Canadian contestant Jackie wore a hijab adorned with 50 silver stars, and a red-and-white striped kaftan. Before her lip-sync, she opened up about how Donald Trump’s travel ban in 2017 – which affected several countries with majority Muslim populations – had ‘hurt’ her immigrant family. Jackie broke down in tears as she said: ‘When the Muslim ban happened, it really destroyed a lot of my faith in this country, and really hurt my family. ‘That’s so wrong to me. And I had to show America that you can be LGBT and from the Middle East, and there’s gonna be complicated s**t around that, and that’s OK.’ Iranian-Canadian contestant Jackie Cox talked about Trump’s travel ban’s impact on her family (Picture: VH1) https://ift.tt/3ePgIO5 Shen went on: ‘But I’m here, and I deserve to be an American just as much as anyone else.’ Jackie then lip-synced to Katy Perry’s Firework against Widow Von’Du, leaving Jeff in tears by the end of her performance. In her confessional, Jackie said: ‘I”m exploding out on that stage because I’m feeling the weight of everyone who’s ever been told they need to go back home where they come from. ‘I’m here to let them know that, “Baby, you’re a firework, and you have a place right here in America.”‘ https://ift.tt/2zxSgRv Jeff also sparked divisive debate among viewers after asking Jackie if Islam is ‘anti-homosexuality and anti-woman’. He first asked Jackie if she was religious, to which she said: ‘I am not. To be honest, this outfit really represents the importance that visibility for people of religious minorities need to have in this country.’ He then asked: ‘Is there something in this religion that is anti-homosexuality and anti-woman? Does that complicate the issue? I’m just raising it and thinking out loud and maybe being stupid.’ More: Donald Trump US sees rise in emergency calls about exposure to disinfectant Donald Trump unfollows Piers Morgan after being called out for coronavirus theories Donald Trump says he was being ‘sarcastic’ about injecting disinfectant to treat Covid-19 Jackie admitted she had ‘misgivings about the way LGBT+ people are treated in the Middle East’, before adding: ‘At the same time, I am one. ‘What is so important to me is that if you just happen to be different, then live that truth.’ Got a story?
