Donald Trump has hailed Boris Johnson’s ‘incredible’ recovery from coronavirus (Pictures: AP) Donald Trump has revealed that Boris Johnson is sounding ‘incredible’ and back to his old self after beating coronavirus. Speaking at the White House Thursday, President Trump said: ‘He called me a few days ago. I will tell you he sounded incredible. I was actually surprised, I thought he’d be like (affecting exhausted voice) “Oh, Donald, how are – “, he was ready to go. I’m very surprised to tell you this. ‘It’s like, the old Boris, tremendous energy, tremendous drive. I was very surprised, because he called me pretty close to when he got out of the hospital. I think he’s doing great. He was so sharp and energetic. Pretty incredible. He’s an incredible guy. He’s a friend of ours and a friend of mines…they’re lucky to have him over there. Johnson tested positive for coronavirus late last month, and was admitted to a hospital earlier this month after struggling to beat the symptoms of the disease. He was then moved to an intensive care unit amid growing fears for his health, but but recovered and was discharged after a week of treatment. He is currently continuing his recovery with pregnant girlfriend Carrie Symonds and is expected to return to work next month. Johnson paid tribute to staff at St Thomas’s Hospital, who he said ‘saved my life,’ no doubt. The Prime Minister paid tribute two two nurses, Jenny and Luis ‘who stood by my bedside for 48 hours when things could have gone either way.’ The brush with death is reported to have left Johnson badly shaken, amid reports he is much less keen to end the UK’s ongoing lockdown, amid pressure from some government colleagues who fear that it is crippling the British economy. He was accused of flippancy at a coronavirus briefing in early March after joking about shaking hands with multiple people during a visit to a hospital. More than 50,000 people have died of coronavirus in the US, with over 18,700 felled by the disease in the UK.
