The two articles of impeachment which the Senate voted on were abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. So, what was the outcome – and what does impeachment mean? Has Donald Trump been impeached? Donald Trump has been cleared in his impeachment trial after the Republican-led Senate acquitted him on all charges. Senators voted 53 to 47 to acquit the president on the charge of obstruction of justice and 52 to 48 to acquit him of abuse of power. The Senate voted to acquit President Trump on all charges (Picture: EPA/US Senate TV) A supermajority of two-thirds of the Senate would have been required in order to impeach Trump on each charge. While impeachment is often considered the first step towards removal from office, it was expected Trump would be acquitted, given the Senate’s Republican majority. This result means that Trump is still the president, and he will finish out the remainder of his term, which is set to end in 2021.
