Donald Trump, pictured outside the White House in October, tweeted asking for prayers hours before a historic impeachment vote that could end his presidency (Picture: AFP) Donald Trump has tweeted a request for prayers hours before a historic impeachment vote that could end his presidency. The president tweeted Wednesday: ‘Can you believe that I will be impeached today by the Radical Left, Do Nothing Democrats, AND I DID NOTHING WRONG! ‘A terrible Thing. Read the Transcripts. ‘This should never happen to another President again. Say a PRAYER!’ Trump ranted as the lower house of the US Congress, the House of Representatives, discussed the two articles of impeachment – akin to charges – Trump faces ahead of the vote. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi – Trump’s fiercest political critic – arrives at the US Capitol on Wednesday ahead of a historic vote that is widely expected to result in Trump being impeached (Picture: AP) That vote is expected to take place at the US Capitol in Washington DC between 6:30pm and 7:30pm EST Wednesday night, with the Democrat-majority ‘House’ considered highly likely to vote to impeach. Trump could then face a trial in the upper house of Congress – the Senate – over claims he abused his office and obstructed a Congressional investigation into that alleged abuse. The Senate has a Republican majority, and it currently seems unlikely that the necessary two thirds or more of senators would vote to remove Trump from office. President Trump will be attending a 2020 reelection rally in Battle Creek, Michigan, at exactly the same time Wednesday’s vote is taking place, and has said he has no desire to watched televised proceedings. This graphic shows how the impeachment process faced by Donald Trump could pan out (Graphic: Getty/Metro.co.uk) Trump is accused abusing his office by getting his personal fixer Rudy Giuliani to dangle a coveted White House invite in front of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier this year. Trump also allegedly withheld $400million in military aid from Ukraine. He is accused of using the invite and aid to try and leverage a Ukrainian investigation into potential 2020 rival Joe Biden’s son Hunter. Hunter Biden has faced questions over his appointment to the board of Ukrainian natural gas firm Burisma. Trump is also said to have wanted Ukraine to open a probe into widely-debunked claims that it was Ukraine which meddled in the 2016 US presidential election, rather than Russia. The president has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, and yesterday sent House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi a scathing letter blasting impeachment proceedings. He claimed he has been treated worse than women killed at the Salem Witch Trials, and said Democrats are keen to impeach him because they are jealous of his 2016 election win. New polls provide some evidence to back up Trump’s latter assertion, with more Americans – 49% to 46% – saying he should not be impeached or ousted from the White House. Trump is expected to become the third US president in history to be formally impeached by office. Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton both faced formal impeachment proceedings, although neither man was removed from office. Richard Nixon also faced a formal impeachment inquiry, but resigned from his job in disgrace before proceedings could begin.
