JackSepticEye and Philip DeFranco have called for a solution to the ‘real root of the problem’ (Picture: Instagram) JackSepticEye and Philip DeFranco are among the YouTubers calling for gun control and insisting video games aren’t to blame for mass shootings. Over the past week, the United States has seen horrific mass shootings – one in El Paso, Texas, which left 22 dead, and another in Dayton, Ohio, which caused at least nine people to be killed and another 27 to be injured. Following the shootings, Donald Trump spoke out against video games, saying that they lead to the ‘glorification of violence.’ He added: ‘It is too easy today for troubled youth to surround themselves with a culture that celebrates violence. We must stop or substantially reduce this, and it has to begin immediately.’ However, gamers, streamers and YouTubers have been denying the claims that video games are to blame for mass shootings, with many of them calling for gun reform instead. ‘Videogames and gaming communities have done so much good for people. They’ve changed the lives of so many of my friends for the better,’ JackSepticEye (real name Sean McLoughlin) wrote. ‘Stop blaming them for the disgusting acts of violence that keep happening instead of dealing with the real root of the problem.’ If the effort these people put into blaming video games for real-world mass murder, was put into finding a real solution to this problem, then maybe something would actually get done. #VideoGamesAreNotToBlame pic.twitter.com/UsXgvJI8cU — Philip DeFranco (@PhillyD) August 5, 2019 Philip DeFranco added: ‘If the effort these people put into blaming video games for real-world mass murder, was put into finding a real solution to this problem, then maybe something would actually get done. #VideoGamesAreNotToBlame.’ Gamer Boogie2988 (Steven Jay Williams) pointed out: ‘I know you guys dont like when I talk politics. But #VideogamesAreNotToBlame Games are played worldwide. One country has this mass shooter problem. When anyone from any political group claims otherwise they are lying to you. Ask yourself why they are lying.’ JackSepticEye insisted video games aren’t to blame (Picture: Twitter/Jack_Septic_Eye) Daniel ‘Keemstar’ Keem simply wrote: ‘Video games are NOT responsible for these mass shootings!’ with his message being retweeted by fellow YouTuber Alfie Deyes. Although most of the mass shootings (the USA has had 249 so far this year) have had no obvious connection to video games, the alleged manifesto of the El Paso shooter does make a brief reference to Call Of Duty. You see these movies, and they’re so violent a kid is able to see the movie if sex isn’t involved, but killing is involved, and maybe we need to put a rating system for that.’ Got a showbiz story?
