Trump is alleged to have made the suggestion on more than one occasion, dating as far back as 2017 President Trump is alleged to have asked his top military commanders why they couldn’t just ‘nuke hurricanes’ before they made landfall. He made the suggestion to generals on more than occasion, as a way of disrupting hurricanes, according to US news site Axios. An unnamed official is reported to have told Trump: ‘We’ll look into this’, after he asked why the military couldn’t just ‘drop a bomb into the eye of the hurricane’ as it formed off the coast of Africa. He is alleged to have said: ‘I got it. I got it. Why don’t we nuke them?’ According to the source, those in the room were left astonished at the suggestion and asked, ‘what the f***? What do we do with this?’ after the meeting. A number of US states have been hit with hurricanes that have caused severe damage in recent years, including Florida, Louisiana and North Carolina. The President suggested drop bombs into the ‘eye of the hurricane’ (Picture: Reuters) Scientists say the use of nuclear bombs may not even ‘alter the course of the storm’ (Picture: Stocktrek Images) Records of the conversation are reported to have been kept in a 2017 national security memo. It’s not the first time that the idea of using nuclear devices to break up hurricanes has been suggested, however, scientists have rejected the idea. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) says that the use of any such weapons might not even ‘alter the course of the storm’ and also ‘neglects the problems caused by any radioactive fallout’ which would result from a nuclear device being dropped.
