This Weak in Politics, Vol. 193 August 1, 2019 President Trump this week declared himself ‘the least racist person in the world,’ shortly after attacking a city that is nearly 2/3rds black, a black Congressman, and a black news anchor. The targets du jour (ou de la semaine, si vous voulez) for Trump’ attacks were respectively — but not respectfully — the City of Baltimore (disgusting, rat and rodent infested, dangerous, filthy mess), Representative Elijah Cummings (failed, racist, milking Baltimore dry), and CNN anchor Don Lemon (dumbest man on television — and in case you don’t understand what the word “dumb” means, the president helpfully explained it parenthetically. Well he tried to use parentheses, anyway). The racist tirades were criticized for being racist tirades, causing Trump to again stake his claim as the least racist person in the world. House members defended Rep. Cummings and criticized Trump’s vitriol, many people criticized the president’s repeated attack on Lemon, and the City of Baltimore, as only the City of Baltimore could do, went all Edgar Allan Goe-Fuck-Yourself on Trump. As well they should have. Baltimore has a great deal of history, notably the famed airports at Fort McHenry during the War of 1812 that found their way into the national Anthem, which was also birthed in Baltimore. But Baltimore has also had its share of tragedies — the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904, the riots of 1968, and the Orioles of 1984-present. One can’t help but wonder if Trump’s belittling of Baltimore and of ElijahCummings has something to do with race. Let’s be honest, by now the president’s racist credentials are fully burnished. The guy is so racist he says things that make David Duke blush. He says things that make Congressman Steve King (R-1954) wince. He says things that make Stephen Miller… well, ok… he’s not THAT racist. In an unexpected step to prove that he is not racist, the president has written a children’s book — and we at TWITPOL got our hands on a galley proof for Trump’s latest book, and the first, it seems, he has written himself. This is not the president’s only foray into children’s books of this nature. Here is a sneak peek at a couple of future titles in the series: Two of the least racist books in the worldTwo more of the least racist books in the world In non-racist White House news…oh, shit there was no non-racist White House news this week. Ha! We kid. On the fiscal front, Trump this week upped the ante with China again, all but assuring that consumer products in the U.S. will become much more expensive because, you know…great again. And the Federal Reserve, which we like to call “The Fed” because it makes us sound like we even have the slightest clue what it is or does, this week decided to cut interest rates by a quarter point for the first time since the financial crisis in 2008. Trump was immediately critical of Fed Chair Jerome Powell — a man he himself appointed — and let it be known in the most presidential of ways…a trash-Tweet. It is difficult to gauge the efficacy of the lowered interest rate in light of Chinese currency manipulation, the trade-war with China, and we have no idea what we are talking about. But, any time you get to use the eff- word in a sentence, you should. The best explanation we can give you regarding the latest move by the Fed and its longterm implications is in the form of a chart. It is our understanding that the lowering of the rates at the top of the steps on the right should make it easier for us to avoid the little spiky thing. You’re welcome. This is one of those times where, even though we don’t understand the Fed, we can all be grateful it is an independent entity that is not required to seek or get the approval of the president. This is good news, as in this case, it means the nation’s economic managers don’t have to take fiscal advice from a guy who lost a billion dollars, bankrupted a casino, and couldn’t even pay off a porn star without fucking it up. And that’s the way the weak spent the week in a nation where we don’t know shit about our central banking system, but we sure as hell know video games from the mid 1980s — and of the efficacy of jumping on every turtle shell on the third step just in case it is the magic one that gives you all the 1 ups. https://ift.tt/2YfkHim If you enjoy reading TWITPOL please seek help.
