The President made his comments on during the 2020 election campaign trail despite slashing the National Cancer Institute’s budget by $900 million. He did not mention this in his speech. The President gave no indication how soon he wishes to achieve something researchers have spent decades attempting to do. At another rally in June, the President vowed to ‘come up with the cures to many, many problems, to many, many diseases including cancer and others. And we’re getting closer all the time.’ At both events he also claimed that America would soon put a man on Mars. But Trump was also criticised over his AIDS policies, and presiding over a series of cuts which removed $1 billion from global AIDS initiatives. His administration also rolled back protections for patients with HIV and other pre-existing conditions. Got a story for Metro.co.uk?
