The former Republican Governor of California said he had ‘nothing nice to say about the guy’ during a stint hosting the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s (HFPA) annual grants dinner on Wednesday night. He said he had a special connection to the event because: ‘I am actually foreign’. Austrian-born Arnie, 72, added: ‘I have chosen not to “go back to my country”, but stay here, live here and make a difference here. ‘And to me, that is what makes America great.’ Arnie said he had a special connection to the event because: ‘I am actually foreign’.(Picture: Getty) Trump has been under fire for his racist comments (Picture: Reuters) The action star was heading up the star-studded banquet in Los Angeles, to announce a $3.8million (£3.million) donation to 74 arts organisations and film schools. The money is raised from the license fees the HFPA gets from NBC for the Golden Globes. His comments came following Trump’s tweets that four Democratic congresswomen should go back to the ‘broken and crime infested places’ from which they came. The women the comments were made towards included Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan All four – now known as ‘The Squad’ – are American citizens and everyone except Omar were born in the United States. chwarzenegger speaks onstage during Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Annual Grants Banquet (Picture: Getty) Arnie’s comments are not the first time he has taken aim at the commander-in-chief. In March, Schwarzenegger mocked Trump for being out of shape, and said: ‘I know he must be working out every day because he’s so unbelievably in shape.’ He was given further ammunition last month when Trump bizarrely claimed Schwarzenegger had died. The Terminator replied on Twitter and said: ‘I’m still here. Want to compare tax returns, @realDonaldTrump?’ Trump has faced significant backlash from his racist comments, which he had refused to back down over. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley and Rashida Tlaib were told to go back to the ‘broken and crime infested’ places they came from.
