Seriously Salient SatireAsked about island’s political turmoil, president seemed to have no idea that Puerto Rico is American territory or that its people are U.S. citizensDonald Trump thinks Puerto Rico’s Ricardo Rossello is the president of a foreign nation. (Credit: trumpinvestigations.blogspot.com) Asked on Monday about massive political protests in Puerto Rico against Governor Ricardo Rossello, Donald Trump once again displayed his total ignorance concerning the U.S. territory, its historical affiliations, and its location on a map. Mr. Trump has repeatedly said that he doesn’t want “more Hispanics from a foreign country bringing trouble to America.” (Credit: www.cnn.com) “All I can say is Puerto Rico needs go back to South America where it belongs,” Mr. Trump said from the Oval Office. “I don’t want more Hispanics from a foreign country spilling onto our shores with their problems.” Mr. Trump seemed to have no idea that Puerto Ricans are American citizens and that the island’s political woes are the inescapable concerns of the United States, not of South America. Asked whether he planned to call President Rossello (left), Donald Trump (right) said “I’ve never met the man, so probably, no.” (Credit: upolitics.com) His clueless remarks echoed some he made back in 2017, when he said the island territory was located somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean: “This is an island sitting in the middle of an ocean — and it’s a big ocean, a really, really big ocean…you can’t just drive your trucks there.” The president added that while he is loved in Puerto Rico for bringing the Miss Universe pageant, which he owns, to the island several times, “I won’t take my beauties there again if Rossello and his people keep asking me for money instead of going to countries like Venezuela or Colombia or others down in South America that speak his language.” Asked to respond to the president’s remarks, the beleaguered Gov. Rossello repeated a controversial remark he made in March of this year about the American president when he said, “If the bully gets close, I’ll punch the bully in the mouth.” There seems to be no chance that Mr. Trump might get close, however, as he has no idea where to find Puerto Rico or its governor. **** Thanks for reading.
