Trump has repeatedly defended his words directed at the four Congresswomen Just a week after launching a racist attack on a group of four Democratic congresswomen, Donald Trump has taken to Twitter again to target the group, calling them ‘very racist’. After telling the four congresswomen to ‘go back’ to the countries they came from, the president posted on Twitter today: ‘The “Squad” is a very racist group of troublemakers who are young, inexperienced, and not very smart. ‘They are pulling the once great Democrat Party far left, and were against humanitarian aid at the Border…And are now against ICE and Homeland Security. ‘So bad for our Country!’ Over the past week, Trump has repeatedly defended his words directed at the four women, Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib, — despite widespread criticism that his remarks were racist and divisive. Trump tweeted that the four Democratic congresswomen should ‘go back’ to their countries, despite the fact they are all US citizens and all but one were born in the US (Ms Omar emigrated to the US from Somalia as a refugee 23 years ago). Ayanna Pressley speaks as Ilhan Omar (L), Rashida Tlaib (2R), and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hold a press conference, to address remarks made by US President Donald Trump (Picture: AFP) The US House of Representatives voted in a historic move last week to rebuke the racist comments he aimed at the four congresswomen. The resolution passed by a 240-187 vote, marking an embarrassing moment for Mr Trump despite carrying no legal repercussions. Yesterday, Trump had accused the four congresswomen from ethnic minority backgrounds of being ‘incapable’ of loving America, demanding they apologise ‘for the horrible (hateful) things they have said’. Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib said she ‘isn’t going anywhere until she impeaches the President’ (Picture: Reuters) Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez described the President as an ‘impulsive racist’ (Picture: Getty Images) The four congresswomen of colour have become colloquially known as ‘the squad’ (Picture: AP) During an appearance Monday morning at an NAACP convention in Detroit, Tlaib was introduced as ‘one of the four women who was told to go back home.’ ‘Yeah, I’m not going nowhere, not until I impeach this president,’ she said upon taking the stage. It comes after the CEO of Siemens condemned Trump for his targeting of the four congresswomen. Joe Kaeser said that Trump was turning the ‘US presidency into the face of racism and exclusion.’ Got a story for Metro.co.uk? If you have a story for our news team, email us at webnews@metro.co.uk.
