Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt greets US President Donald Trump as he arrives at Stansted Airport today (Picture: Getty) Jeremy Hunt has urged Donald Trump to put his money on him if he wants to make some money. The Foreign Secretary said that Boris Johnson may be the bookies’ favourite, but his odds are short so the payout will be larger if Mr Hunt wins. ‘Johnson has much shorter odds at Ladbrokes than I do, so if he really wants to make money it has to be Hunt,’ he told Sky News. Mr Hunt was speaking ahead of the US president touching down on Air Force One ahead of his state visit. He was the first minister to greet the president after he arrived at Stansted Airport, and told him: ‘We’re going to put on a fantastic show this week because America is our closest ally and we want to celebrate an amazing partnership.’ Asked on Sky News about the anger many felt about Trump’s visit, he said: ‘He is a very controversial president, and we’ve all got used to that over the last two years, and there are no visits from President Trump that don’t have unexpected moments.’ {“@context”:“https:\/\/schema.org”,“@type”:“VideoObject”,“name”:“Metro.co.uk”,“duration”:“T59S”,“thumbnailUrl”:“https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2019\/06\/03\/10\/14294232-0-image-a-7_1559554496555.jpg”,“uploadDate”:“2019-06-03T10:34:17+0100”,“description”:“Jeremy Hunt would tell Donald Trump to back him for Prime Minister if he wants to make money.”,“contentUrl”:“https:\/\/videos.metro.co.uk\/video\/met\/2019\/06\/03\/6240660648612836062\/480x270_MP4_6240660648612836062.mp4”,“height”:270,“width”:480} To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video He hit out at Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and London Mayor Sadiq Khan for boycotting the visit, saying: ‘It’s about virtue signalling on Labour’s side, it’s not a position of principal. ‘What is really inappropriate is for anyone to boycott a visit by the president of the US. This is a state visit, not a political visit. He’s being hosted by the Queen.’ He appeared to defend Mr Trump calling Mr Khan a ‘stone cold loser’ by saying: ‘That spat started because the mayor of London and other people in the Labour party decided to boycott this visit and I think that’s totally inappropriate.’ .@SadiqKhan, who by all accounts has done a terrible job as Mayor of London, has been foolishly “nasty” to the visiting President of the United States, by far the most important ally of the United Kingdom. He is a stone cold loser who should focus on crime in London, not me…… — Donald J. He will also attend commemoration events to mark the D-Day landings in Normandy. Got a story for Metro.co.uk? If you have a story for our news team, email us at webnews@metro.co.uk.
