Donald Trump will be meeting Theresa May when hundreds of thousands protest in the streets outside Downing Street (Picture: Getty) It is day two of Donald Trump’s state visit to the UK and he is swapping pomp and pageantry for politics and protests. Just as Trump meets with business leaders, politicians, and the outgoing prime minister, hundreds of thousands of people are preparing to protest against him. It is expected that around 250,000 could join a demonstration through central London, which kicks off at 11am – just as Trump prepares to hold talks with Theresa May. The president will begin his day back at Buckingham Palace until around 9.30am when he is expected to head to St James’ Palace for a business meeting. Organisers of the Together Against Trump protest say their ‘carnival of resistance’ begins at Trafalgar Square from 11am to declare it a ‘Trump-free zone’. Thousands of protesters will line the streets of London to join the protest and the giant 20ft orange inflatable baby Trump blimp will be flown for two hours from 10am. Bilateral meetings with other ministers will take place from 11.40am before a working lunch at just before 1pm. Trump is then expected to hold a press conference at 1.45pm. At the same time, Jeremy Corbyn is expected to address those demonstrating against the state visit and the president’s divisive policies. The Labour leader, who refused to attend last night’s state banquet for the president at Buckingham Palace, said he will join crowds to ‘stand in solidarity with those he’s attacked in America, around the world and in our own country’. He condemned the president’s Twitter attack on labour London Mayor Sadiq Khan yesterday, when Trump called him a ‘stone cold loser’ just as he landed in the UK. Protesters have been barred from demonstrating directly outside Downing Street while the president meets the prime minister, and part of Whitehall will be closed off, the Metropolitan Police confirmed on Monday afternoon. The protesters will include Handmaids Against Trump – women who will be draped in red with white hoods in homage to Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel about a crackdown on reproductive rights. Climate change activists, students, pacifists, trade union members and families will also gather. Labour’s Diane Abbott and Emily Thornberry confirmed their attendance, while the Liberal Democrats and Green Party are appealing for the public to join them. TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady and Mark Serwotka, head of the Public and Commercial Services union (PCS), will also speak to those gathered. Elsewhere across the UK, protests are also planned in Birmingham, Stoke, Sheffield, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Chester, Leicester, Oxford and Exeter. The Metropolitan Police said a ‘barrier plan’ will be in place across part of Whitehall just north of the Women’s War Memorial. Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, will attend the dinner in Regent’s Park, on behalf of the Queen. Donald Trump’s full UK visit itinerary Monday June 3 Donald and Melania Trump arrive at 9am and travel to Winfield House, the US Ambassador’s residence in Regent’s Park, before travelling on Marine One to Buckingham Palace where they will be officially welcomed by the Queen, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall shortly after noon. He will have a private lunch with the Queen at 1.15pm and view a special exhibition of items of historical significance to the United States from the Royal Collection at 2pm. Later, at around 3.10pm and accompanied by the Duke of York, Mr and Mrs Trump will visit Westminster Abbey for a tour, and the president will lay a wreath at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior. Charles and Camilla will host Trump and the First Lady for tea at Clarence House shortly after 4pm, before flying to Buckingham Palace on Marine One to attend a state banquet from around 8.45pm where both the Queen and Trump will make speeches. Tuesday June 4 Trump and Prime Minister Theresa May will co-host a business breakfast meeting with senior UK and US business leaders. The event at St James’s Palace will also be attended by the Duke of York. The US leader will hold talks with May at 10 Downing Street, after which they will give a press conference. Mr and Mrs Trump will host a dinner at Winfield House – the official residence of Woody Johnson, the US ambassador to the UK – in Regent’s Park, which will be attended by Charles and Camilla, who will represent the Queen. Wednesday June 5 Mr and Mrs Trump will join the Queen and Charles at Southsea Common in Portsmouth to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day. Later on Wednesday, after the UK state visit has come to an end, Mr and Mrs Trump will travel to the Republic of Ireland to stay overnight at his Doonbeg hotel and golf resort in Co Clare.
