It it a term that can be used to describe any aircraft that is carrying the US president, but this usually only refers to the specific planes that are most often used to transport him across the world. Currently there are two Boeing 747-200B series aircraft that are used for the president and are referred to as Air Force one. Here is everything that you need to know about the aircraft and how long it has been used for. Does Air Force One have a flight tracker? For security reasons the US government doesn’t usually make it easy to track Air Force One when they president is travelling to different destinations. There are some publicly available resources that claim to provide details of various flights around the world, including the route of Air Force One. This is unlikely to be accurate though, as the flight plans are usually not listed anywhere and in some cases even decoy planes are used to make it harder to track. It is likely that the US government is able to turn off transponders or use different codes if it is flying over areas that are considered a threat How old is Air Force One? The first time that a US president travelled in an aircraft was Theodore Roosevelt in October 1910, but the first presidential aircraft wasn’t introduced until 1933 when Franklin D. Roosevelt was in office. In 1962, John F. Kennedy became the first president to fly in a plane that was specifically built for the president, which was a modified Boeing 707. The first of the current aircrafts being used was introduced in 1990 for President George H. W. Bush. After being elected president, Donald Trump tweeted in December 2016 that construction of the new Air Force One should be cancelled because it would cost more than $4 billion. The current Air Force One has 4,000 square feet of floor space across three different levels, as well as an executive sweet that include an office and conference room. There are also rooms for senior advisers and other guests who might accompany the president on a flight.
