De Niro isn’t holding back (Picture: NBC) Robert de Niro has called President Trump a ‘total loser’ and compared him unfavourably to gangster, suggesting that ‘even gangsters have morals’. The outspoken actor has been in a long-running dispute with the US president, famously yelling ‘f*** Trump’ at the Tony Awards in 2018. But speaking on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, de Niro admitted that he had tried to give Trump a chance but it was pointless. ‘That’s what I said right after he was elected. Give him a chance. I give everybody the benefit of the doubt. This guy has proven himself to be a total loser,’ he said to cheers from the audience. ‘He’s a total loser’ (Picture: AP) The 75-year-old will return to the gangster genre later in the year with Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, which will air on Netflix. ‘People like the outlaw thing,’ said de Niro, ‘except we have a wannabe gangster in the White House now. ‘Call it a certain… it’s a disappointed dunsky. A DD, a disappointment dunsky. That’s what he is, a dumbbell.’ ‘But even gangsters have morals and they have ethics, they have a code,’ said de Niro, ‘and you know when you give somebody your word it’s your word because it’s all you have is your word’. ‘This guy he doesn’t even know what that means,’ he added.
