Donald Trump has said Europe should ‘take back’ any of their citizens who have been captured in Syria after joining Isis. The US President warned they could ‘permeate Europe’ and called on Britain, France and Germany to ‘step up’ and put the prisoners on trial in their home countries. There are currently more than 800 ‘foreign terrorist fighters’ from around 40 countries who are currently being held by the American-backed, Kurdish-dominated Syria Democratic Forces (SDF). Donald Trump has said Europe should repatriate any citizens who travelled to Syria to join Isis (Picture: Rex) Trump warned that if Europe does not repatriate its citizens, the US will allow them to go. He tweeted: ‘The Caliphate is ready to fall. The alternative is not a good one in that we will be forced to release them. Will Smith trolls Kim Kardashian and Kanye West over Kenny Rogers ‘saxual’ Valentine’s Day ‘The US does not want to watch as these ISIS fighters permeate Europe, which is where they are expected to go. ‘We do so much, and spend so much – Time for others to step up and do the job that they are so capable of doing. We are pulling back after 100% Caliphate victory!’ America is due to withdraw its forces out of Syria, and it is feared Turkey could attack Kurdish-held areas after their troops are no longer in control. The American-backed Syrian Democratic Force (pictured) have managed to push Isis into into an area of 700 square metres (Picture: AFP/Getty) The final pocket of Isis fighters have been pushed into an area of 700 square metres, and their capture would mark the end of the terror groups four-year reign of destruction of Syria. At the height of the power of their so-called ‘caliphate’ in 2014, they controlled nearly a third of both Iraq and Syria. The Walking Dead’s Chandler Rigg shares first picture from A Million Little Things However, the end of their territorial control would not necessarily mean an end to the group, and the SDF have said they will continue the fight against sleeper cells. Trumps comments regarding captured foreign fighters comes after Shamima Begum, 19, resurfaced in a Syrian refugee camp – four years after travelling from Bethnal Green, east London. The teenager is currently pregnant with her third child and has begged to be allowed to return to the UK so she can give birth in safety. Shamima Begum has sparked international debate after (Picture: PA) Her other two children, a girl aged a year and nine months old and a three-month-old boy, both died after succumbing to malnutrition in the war-torn country. She has shown little remorse for her actions, and says she does ‘not regret’ leaving for Syria. Trump demands Europe 'take back’ 800 Isis fighters or US will 'release them’ Home Secretary Sajid Javid has warned he ‘will not hesitate’ to prevent the return of Britons who had travelled abroad to join Isis. He said those who left the UK to join Isis were ‘full of hate for our country’, and should be prepared to be prosecuted if they do return home. Speaking to The Times, he said: ‘My message is clear – if you have supported terrorist organisations abroad I will not hesitate to prevent your return.’ Got a story for Metro.co.uk?
