Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump: A REAL scandal is the one sided coverage, hour by hour, of networks like NBC & Democrat spin machines like Saturday Night Live. It is all nothing less than unfair news coverage and Dem commercials. Should be tested in courts, can’t be legal? Only defame & belittle! Collusion? Alec Baldwin’s unflattering portrayal of him on SNL has been a thorn in the president’s side for two years. (Credit: http://toofab.com) Lawyers for SNL, however, say that political satire is completely legal and covered by the First Amendment of The Constitution, giving Americans the right to free speech, including mockery of a sitting president. “What he doesn’t realize is that someone as utterly humorless as he is just provokes more ridicule from our writers,” said a producer on Saturday Night Live, who spoke off the record for fear of being roughed-up by goons hired by Mr. Trump. “In fact, I’m working on next week’s cold open right now and it’s just a complete rip on the Cheeto-In-Chief. We won’t stop until he gets the joke, that joyless, puffed-up piece of GOP excrement.” Dana Carvey repeatedly satirized then President George H.W. It’s just impossible to explain his total absence of humor in any other way.” Historians of political humor say it’s important to remember other presidents and their tolerance for ridicule, like former President George H.W. Bush who enjoyed Dana Carvey’s frequent parodies of him in SNL skits and even played along. They also shared a quote from Lyndon B. Johnson who not only tolerated the Smothers Brothers comedy team poking fun at him regularly, but honored them for it: “It is part of the price of leadership of this great and free nation to be the target of clever satirists. You have given the gift of laughter to our people.
