(Credit: http://krvn.com) According to President Donald Trump a tractor parade by American farmers during his inauguration “was totally responsible” for egregious misspending now being investigated by federal prosecutors. “That damn tractor brigade overcharged us,” the president claimed in a tweet on Thursday after it was reported that the U.S. attorney’s office is looking into financial abuses by his inaugural committee. “I did nothing wrong, NOTHING! It was those greedy farmers.” Investigators are also looking into whether foreigners illegally contributed to Mr. Trump’s inaugural fund. Addressing that possibility, the president tweeted, “Foreigners were not the problem, IT WAS THE FARMERS!” Tractors parading past empty stands during President Trump’s 2017 inauguration. (Credit: www.thefencepost.com) While there was a large procession of American-made tractors during the inauguration parade driven by national farm leaders, it seems unlikely that their involvement could have cost the president’s organizing committee more than $100 million. “The farmers didn’t bill Mr. Trump’s inauguration tens of millions of dollars and their tractors weren’t the problem,” said one federal prosecutor who spoke off the record. “What we believe happened is that Donald Trump, most of his family members, and dozens of his shady business associates siphoned off most of the record $107 million raised to fill their own pockets. This was about wealthy donors giving Mr. Trump money to buy political influence. And that’s a very serious crime.” The president demonstrated his great love for farming last year when he lightly touched a piece of agricultural equipment.
