Christian had a strange run-in with Trump (Picture: Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic) Christian Bale plays former US vice president Dick Cheney in Oscar favourite Vice, so it’s not surprising he’s reflecting on political meetings he’s had in the past. But we didn’t realise there’d be so much Batman involved. The actor has revealed he thinks President Donald Trump thought he was actually Bruce Wayne after they met during the filming of The Dark Knight in 2011. Christian, 44, was dressed as Batman’s alter ego while in Trump Tower when he met the pre-White House businessman. Trump had not yet revealed his presidential aspirations (Picture: AP) Speaking to Variety, Bale said: ‘I met him, one time. We were filming on Batman in Trump Tower and he said, come on up to the office. ‘I think he thought I was Bruce Wayne, because I was dressed as Bruce Wayne. So he talked to me like I was Bruce Wayne and I just went along with it, really. It was quite entertaining.’ He added: ‘I had no idea at the time that he would think about running for president.’ That year Trump publicly hinted that he would run for president, before endorsing Mitt Ropment as the Republican candidate against Barack Obama – but in June 2015, he announced his candidacy for President, and the rest is history. Bale gained 40 lbs to play Dick Cheney (Picture: Annapurna Pictures) Bale is tipped to be Oscar nominated for his role as Cheney in Adam McKay’s Vice, which has already picked up multiple Golden Globes nominations. The actor gained 40 lbs for the role, completely transforming him – but this time, Bale decided not to ‘wing it’. The star famously dropped 63 lbs for The Machinist before regaining 100 lbs in six months to play Batman in Batman Begins, but he was safer in his process this time around.
