Kanye West thinks Donald Trump needs to replace Air Force One with a hydrogen powered plane. And the rapper reckons tech giant Apple should be the ones to build it for him. Seriously. It’ll apparently be called the ‘iPlane’ and will be a fitting, American-built method of transportation for The Donald. Donald Trump speaks during a meeting with rapper Kanye West in the Oval Office at the White House in Washington (Image: REUTERS/Kevin Lamarque) At a meeting with Trump in the White House yesterday Kanye even whipped out his phone and, after revealing his passcode to the entire room, showed Trump a concept image of the plane. ‘This right here is the iPlane 1,’ the rapper told the president. Kanye shows Trump a photograph of a hydrogen plane during a meeting in the Oval Office (AP Photo/Evan Vucci) Kanye West holds his phone with a picture of a plane after he showed it to president Donald Trump during a meeting in the Oval office (Image: Getty Images North America) ‘It’s a hydrogen-powered airplane, and this is what our president should be flying in. We’re going to have Apple, an American company, work on this plane.’ ‘This is our president. He has to be the freshest, the ‘flyest’ – the ‘flyest’ planes, the best factories.’ The only hitch in Kanye’s plan is that Apple doesn’t actually make planes. And probably has no inclination to do so. A closer look at Kanye West’s ‘iPlane’ (Image: Shabtai Hirshberg) The concept image he showed Trump actually comes from a thesis published in 2012 by industrial designer Shabtai Hirshberg called ‘Imagining the future of air travel in 2030’. And Hirshberg told tech site The Verge that, despite what Kanye said, his concept wasn’t designed to run on hydrogen. It’s actually a ‘turboprop ultrahigh-bypass hybrid engine’. The concept plane that Kanye showed Trump was created back in 2012 (Image: Shabtai Hirshberg) And while it would be a nice idea to see the president of the USA exchanging his regular plane for a more carbon friendly alternative, we’re not entirely sure Trump will go for it. He did, after all, pull out of the biggest global climate change agreement in recent times.
