On Thursday, condo owners at Riverside Boulevard in Manhattan’s Upper West Side joined three other neighboring buildings that have already purged their presidential affiliation. Tenants voted last week to get rid of the prominent gold letters that spelled out ‘Trump Place’ on the 46-story building’s facade. Property owners bought the right to use Trump’s name for $1 in 2000 – but many residents changed their stance once politics skewed Trump’s image. The push to remove Mr Trump’s name began in 2017 after concerns were raised by a portion of the building’s 377 condo owners. Alan Garten, chief legal officer of the Trump Organization, wrote a letter promising the company would seek ‘significant amounts of damages, costs and attorney’s fees’ if the name was removed. There is no reason to take it down.’ Another posted: ‘Arguably, at one time the Trump name may have contributed something to the value of our apartments.’ ‘That is clearly not the case today.’ The building will now be referred to by its address at 200 Riverside Boulevard (Photo: Reuters) Deliberation continued and in May a judge ruled that the building’s licensing agreement did not require owners ‘to use the identification “Trump” on the facade of the premises.” Last week, approximately 70 percent of owners voted to remove the sign – costing approximately $1,150 per letter. The letters were removed Thursday and the facade was cleaned. Now, the building will be formally referred to by only its address: 200 Riverside Boulevard.
